=== keypushe- is now known as keypusher [09:34] expected release for 21.10? [09:54] Hi [09:56] Which version of Xfce does Xubuntu 20.04 LTS use? [09:58] xu-help53w: You can check these things easily on packages.ubuntu.com [09:58] https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/xfce4 [09:58] 4.14 [09:58] I mean, for the future, you can always check there if you want to check for the version of some package in a certain distribution [10:00] Can we not get 4.16 on Xubuntu 20.04 LTS? [10:02] no [10:02] xu-help53w: Ubuntu does not have that kind of releases where you would make feature upgrades to a package [10:02] however, you can use external packages of course [10:02] check out e.g. https://www.linuxuprising.com/2021/01/how-to-install-xfce-416-on-xubuntu-2004.html [10:03] well, "external" [10:03] Ok [13:25] :D [13:25] i can confirm that the nvme drive worked flawlesly with 21.10 [13:26] pc boots in 2 seconds :D === genii-core is now known as genii === dkessel580 is now known as dkessel58 [16:48] hey, i think there might be a problem with the file 777032a3688fc47202f7cb07d18196a4d24b7b047160977100183d598538e9c5 *xubuntu-20.04.3-desktop-amd64.iso. [16:50] vann, the hash does not match? [16:51] install fails. hash matches [16:51] i downloaded from german and french mirrors [16:52] tried to create the stick with unetbootin on windows 10 and with the startup-disk tool on ubuntu [16:52] have you tried re-formatting the install media? [16:52] sometimes it needs to be on fat32 and if it's on ntfs it wont work [16:55] i'll recheck that, but i think i did fat32 [16:59] vann: i'm not sure whether unetbootin does this, but i know that balena etcher verifies that the data written tot he installer media (usb stick) matches the ISO file [17:02] the iso file should be 1791655936 bytes [17:05] the file size is correct. [17:05] i reformatted the entire stick to fat32 with gparted just now [17:06] and use startup disk creator from ubuntu to write the image [17:13] i dont think the original file system will matter there, since it should just overwrite the full thing [17:15] nah i made an installer yesterday and the pc bious wouldn't detect it if it wasn't on fat32 [17:17] i'm starting the installation right now, and while the loading bar is runnen and it's checking the files, it says at the end 'Check finished: errors found in 1 files! You might encounter errors.' [17:17] i'm attempting the installation now, i check both 'download updates' and 'third-party' in the dialog [17:17] fingers crossed [17:19] i can now choose between 'erase ubuntu', 'install alongside' and 'erase disk' and 'something else'. i would choose 'erase disk' but don't select any advanced features [17:21] and now i get 'Installation Failed' [17:22] zlib decompression failed, data probably corrupt [17:22] so verify the data written to the usb stick [17:22] failed to read block 0x3171a268: -5 [17:22] that sounds like oyu want to replace the broken stick [17:24] ok, so installing ubuntu from that stick i was just lucky that I didn't hit that block? [17:24] if oyu did so previously without error, then it was either not hitting this block, or the block happened to be readable then [17:25] ok, thanks. i guess i gotta find another stick then. [17:25] brb [17:32] ok, i got another stick, i'll try balena etcher now [17:48] with the other stick i at least passed the point where the error occured before. interesting bit: i just now flashed the faulty stick with balenaEtcher and it says the flash is successful, so balenaEtcher seems to not find that faulty block. [17:51] ok, install was successful. thank you very much for your help <3 [17:58] you're welcome === genii is now known as genii-core
