[02:24] good morning [06:43] Heya [08:12] good morning [10:39] can Ubuntu upgrade from 20.04LTS to 21.10 directly? [10:40] no Donald_ [10:40] you need to jump to every next release first [10:40] I see... [10:40] that is why it shows upgrade to 21.04 only... [10:41] Donald_: is that what you want, to switch from lts to non lts? [10:42] I have changed the config file. I am on 20.04LTS now, I want to upgrade it to 21.10 directly. [10:43] Donald_: the 'config' file? [10:45] this file [10:45] "/etc/update-manager/release-upgrades" [10:45] change the Prompt from lts to normal. [10:46] Then, run the command "do-release-upgrade" [10:48] yeah, you need to do it in steps or clean install [10:52] The upgrade process has always been confusing (to me) and now that 20.10 is EOL even more so. The Release notes for 21.10 only mention upgrading from 21.04 so I suggest waiting for 22.04 (LTS to LTS) or a clean install of 21.10. [10:53] yeah i would go for PaulW2U idea too === PaulW2U is now known as paulw2 [11:43] Donald_, There is the capacity to upgrade 20.04 to 21.04 (the next supported release; it's skipping the intended 20.10, but it's a QA-testcase & is automatically/CI tested even if not a mandatory testcase) - but not 20.04 to 21.10 currently, only 21.04 or next supported release (when 21.04 is EOL, the upgrade will go from 20.04 to 21.10 directly - but it's not as tested as via all cycles) [11:44] Ok, understood. Maybe it is better to have a clean install. [11:45] http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/424/builds/238347/testcases [11:47] I don't know if you're asking about desktop or server install; but I like an *upgrade via re-install* (or 'install using existing partition' in lubuntu's testcase) where it's not a clean install.. i qa-test & jumped from 21.04, 21.10, 20.04.3, 21.10, 18.04.6, 21.10 (if I recall correctly last few months) on an install without loosing my installed apps, music etc.. (it was still a test machine though!) [11:55] * guiverc just noticed that qa-test said LTS(bionic)->impish (it should have said focal->impish), that may not build 'confidence' === paulw2 is now known as PaulW2U [21:37] I like kde plasma a lot more than the ubuntu gnome default desktop. [21:42] virtual desktops work nicer, the title bar works nicer, no dock that I don't need, and I can make it look nicer [21:44] mm, a dock seems like a waste of pixels to me [21:47] yes, the ubuntu default UI has it on the left, the plasma UI has one on the bottom, but I can move it to the top and remove all the pieces I don't want
