thrikhey all. I'm new to Linux. I'm on Xubuntu 20.04, coming from Windows. I'm having intense system lag while mining. this did not happen on Windows, all apps worked without lag. I can't find a solution online. any advice?02:58

AnonamyHi, so I upgraded Xubuntu from 16.04 to 18.04 then to 20.04 all in the same day,18:33
Anonamyeverything seems ok, except there is some Gnome stuff that seems to conflict with XFCE, such as the panel and menus, but I resolved those by uninstalling some Gnome packages18:34
AnonamyI do have a problem still however, and that is the automatic Software-updater18:34
pikapikayeah18:34
pikapikacheck your sources.list18:34
pikapikaapt from the command line just gives you a warning and continues along if any of the sources are failing, but the software updater fails with an internet error18:35
Anonamythe problem is that it refuses to update anything because it does not have root access18:35
pikapikais it talking about some "partial upgrade"?18:35
Anonamysources.list is fine now18:35
pikapikaAnonamy, check for keyring18:36
AnonamyI have no problems anymore except for the software-updater ...   it opens and closes really quick when I hit update, then I get an error in Auth, saying that it does not have access18:36
pikapikaI think the software updater uses keyring for auth18:37
AnonamyI can still update in the command line with apt-update18:37
pikapikatheres an app called gnome keyring18:37
Anonamyapt-get upgrade ect all works fine, its just the gui version has no access, but it pops up automatically so I don't know where to look to give it root access18:37
pikapikait manages permissions for gui apps that require root18:37
pikapikaso you don't have to type password18:38
Anonamyok18:38
pikapikaI am not saying it is the cause18:38
pikapikaJust pointing it as a potential18:38
Anonamyalright I am looking into it18:39
Anonamyin the mean time I created a menu item that runs sudo /usr/bin/update-manager  and made it run in terminal18:43
AnonamyI mean  .     sudo /usr/bin/update-manager18:45
Anonamygetting this error in auth.log      polkitd(authority=local): Operator of unix-session:c6 FAILED to authenticate to gain authorization for action org.debian.apt.install-or-remove-packages for system-bus-name::1.5174 [/usr/bin/python3 /usr/bin/update-manager] (owned by unix-user:lsemple)18:46
Anonamy^ thats the error I get if I run /usr/bin/update-manager   without sudo18:47
Anonamyand its the same error when the update-manager automatically presents itself every other day18:48
Anonamymaybe I should ask in #ubuntu ?18:48
pikapikaAnonamy, why do you not use apt-get18:49
pikapikaI always just use apt-get18:49
pikapikaI get to see the logs of the update as its happening18:49
pikapikaand the gui tools always seem to have problems with some edge cases18:49
pikapikaand in 16 my software updater basically stopped working18:49
pikapikaAnonamy, I have a feeling its keyring related18:50
AnonamyI do use apt-get all the time18:52
Anonamyit would just be nice if the automatic one would work18:53
Anonamypikapika, thanks for the help.. its not the end of the world if I cannot use it, 18:55
pikapikathe gui updater always has problems18:56
pikapikaIt is my personal policy that I try to use base tools rather than wrappers as much as possible18:56
Anonamyyeah thats what I figure18:56
pikapikaThe external layers expecially guis over command line tools are often fickle18:56
Anonamyis there a way to disable it ?18:56
pikapikaI don't know18:56
Anonamyremove the program entirely18:57
pikapikaProbably not a good idea18:57
pikapikathere might be important dependencies it takes along with itself18:57
Anonamyor rename it in /usr/bin18:57
pikapikamaybe just chmod -x the process?18:57
Anonamyok18:57
pikapikachmod -x is better than renaming18:57
pikapikadid you look into your keyring18:57
Anonamyno18:58
pikapikaAnonamy, what groups is your user in19:00
