=== genii is now known as genii-core [02:58] hey all. I'm new to Linux. I'm on Xubuntu 20.04, coming from Windows. I'm having intense system lag while mining. this did not happen on Windows, all apps worked without lag. I can't find a solution online. any advice? [05:18] 32-bit xubuntu? [18:35] sources.list is fine now [18:36] Anonamy, check for keyring [18:36] I have no problems anymore except for the software-updater ... it opens and closes really quick when I hit update, then I get an error in Auth, saying that it does not have access [18:37] I think the software updater uses keyring for auth [18:37] I can still update in the command line with apt-update [18:37] theres an app called gnome keyring [18:37] apt-get upgrade ect all works fine, its just the gui version has no access, but it pops up automatically so I don't know where to look to give it root access [18:37] it manages permissions for gui apps that require root [18:38] so you don't have to type password [18:38] ok [18:38] I am not saying it is the cause [18:38] Just pointing it as a potential [18:39] alright I am looking into it [18:43] in the mean time I created a menu item that runs sudo /usr/bin/update-manager and made it run in terminal [18:45] I mean . sudo /usr/bin/update-manager [18:46] getting this error in auth.log polkitd(authority=local): Operator of unix-session:c6 FAILED to authenticate to gain authorization for action org.debian.apt.install-or-remove-packages for system-bus-name::1.5174 [/usr/bin/python3 /usr/bin/update-manager] (owned by unix-user:lsemple) [18:47] ^ thats the error I get if I run /usr/bin/update-manager without sudo [18:48] and its the same error when the update-manager automatically presents itself every other day [18:48] maybe I should ask in #ubuntu ? [18:49] Anonamy, why do you not use apt-get [18:49] I always just use apt-get [18:49] I get to see the logs of the update as its happening [18:49] and the gui tools always seem to have problems with some edge cases [18:49] and in 16 my software updater basically stopped working [18:50] Anonamy, I have a feeling its keyring related [18:52] I do use apt-get all the time [18:53] it would just be nice if the automatic one would work [18:55] pikapika, thanks for the help.. its not the end of the world if I cannot use it, [18:56] the gui updater always has problems [18:56] It is my personal policy that I try to use base tools rather than wrappers as much as possible [18:56] yeah thats what I figure [18:56] The external layers expecially guis over command line tools are often fickle [18:56] is there a way to disable it ? [18:56] I don't know [18:57] remove the program entirely [18:57] Probably not a good idea [18:57] there might be important dependencies it takes along with itself [18:57] or rename it in /usr/bin [18:57] maybe just chmod -x the process? [18:57] ok [18:57] chmod -x is better than renaming [18:57] did you look into your keyring [18:58] no [19:00] Anonamy, what groups is your user in === bendover is now known as hippity_hoppiry === hippity_hoppiry is now known as hippity_hoppity === genii is now known as genii-core
