MrConorAEhello, how do you get Windows 11 to replace the Secure Boot keys?01:19
MrConorAEi was trying Ubuntu off of a live usb, and it asked me to "install MOK", and I, not knowing what it meant and assuming it was part of a firmware update which my computer had done earlier, did it01:20
MrConorAEnow most of my devices aren't working and File Explorer, Start and Settings won't open01:20
MrConorAEany help would be greatly appreciated01:20
toddcMrConorAE: boot a Windows disk and it will offer a repair option01:21
MrConorAEhow do you make a windows disk?01:22
MrConorAEWindows 11 is installed on the SSD, but do you mean a recovery USB?01:22
toddceither will work 1 sec looking for address01:23
MrConorAEthe laptop still boots from the SSD, but no repair option is available01:24
MrConorAEeven holding SHIFT and clicking Restart to get to recovery options doesn't work, my computer just reboots normally01:24
MrConorAEit's a Lenovo, if that helps01:24
toddchttps://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11 from a working windows this makes a usb boot disk with the repair option01:24
mybalzitchwindows official documentation now says you have to interrupt the reboot process like 3 times to get the repair options01:25
mybalzitchso forcefully power it off when the pinwheel shows up01:25
MrConorAEmybalzitch: i'll try that01:25
toddcmybalzitch: good to know thanks01:26
MrConorAEtoddc: so then I boot from that, and ask it to repair?01:26
Peter1Hello which is the correct extension for a sha 256 checksum on ubuntu sha256 like on windows or sha2-256 or sha256sum or sha2 or something else entierly?01:26
toddcyes it should see that windows 11 was installed and offer up a repair option01:26
MrConorAEmybalzitch: interrupting now01:27
MrConorAEoh - it said "preparing automatic repair" then proceeded to reboot again and appeared to boot normally01:29
MrConorAEwhat :/01:29
MrConorAEalso, every time it boots it flashes a message saying "please wait while we install a system update" with the Lenovo logo - is that something I should be worried about?01:29
MrConorAEmybalzitch: nope, still booting to windows01:30
MrConorAEima go make a recovery USB now01:30
MrConorAElet me know if you think of anything else :/01:31
TJ-Peter1: Linux doesn't rely/bother about file extensions, it can be anything01:31
Peter1To go to repair options on windows hold Shift while restarting from the Power menu and it should show you the repair options after the restart.01:33
Peter1Thank you for the answer.01:38
Peter1Thought which is the most common extension for a sha 256 hash then? If any is used.01:49
TJ-Peter1: the archive doesn't use an extension. it calls the file SHA256SUMS01:53
MrConorAEPeter1: that doesn't work01:54
MrConorAEmy computer just reboots normally if i try01:54
Peter1MrConorAE Then sorry i have only windows 10 and there holding the shift key and pressing restart in the power menu works.01:59
Peter1TJ- Thank you for the answer.02:01
Peter1MrConorAE That is holding it before i press restart and until it starts rebooting.02:03
MrConorAEPeter1: Yes, I've tried that: my computer just says "Please wait" and then reboots normally.02:04
Peter1MrConorAE What about trying the other methods as described here: https://www.minitool.com/news/advanced-options-windows-10-009.html02:09
MrConorAEtoddc: i have a "repair your computer" link, but on the recovery screen that follows there is no "reset" option02:09
Peter1What about the methods here: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-bs/000147155/booting-to-the-advanced-startup-options-menu-in-windows-1002:25
Peter1https://pureinfotech.com/access-advanced-startup-options-windows-11/02:25

Peter1https://gearupwindows.com/how-to-access-windows-11-boot-advanced-options-menu/?amp=102:25
TJ-MrConorAE: if you've added Machine Owners Keys, you can clear those from the motherboard's firmware setup options02:27
TJ-If you're doing a Windows recovery this should really be moved to #windows, this channel is for Ubuntu issues02:28

TJ-"smpboot: SMP disabled"04:17
hell_fireah there's the problem!04:18
MenzadorFind the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT line in /etc/default/grub, delete the "noapic" and "nolapic" options, save and close your editor, and run [ sudo update-grub ]04:18
hell_fireokay04:18
MenzadorReboot and see what happens. I'd suggest taking out "quiet" and "splash" options as well to see if it spits out any errors while loading04:20
hell_fireMenzador: okay04:21
Dr-007hello. im running 2 vnc servers on my desktop. 1 connects to the actual screen and the other 1 connects to a virtual desktop. ive set it up with Xvfb as follow: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/vTfGh8pGzm/04:22
Dr-007my 'problem' is that its a basic slimmed down GUI of ubuntu that is started. and when i try to start chrome it loads for a little while and then just quits without error04:22

tomreynit's not there by default, so you would have added that at some point04:32
tomreynmaybe to work around another problem?04:32
hell_firetomreyn: yeah i tried that wayy before i installed windows, that was because some updates were not acting correct.. i think04:32
hell_firetomreyn: yea i did that04:32

hell_fireokay but is it really required?04:42

hell_fireoh04:43
hell_firei'll try that but on that link it only shows windoe\ws operating systems04:43
hell_firewindows04:44
hell_firealso my model number is not there in that link04:46
tomreynhell_fire: It says "Satellite (Pro) C640"04:47
tomreynactually without "(Pro)"04:48
tomreynbut when you click the bios link on the bottom it does04:48
tomreynbut this "(pro)" apparently means that it works for both04:48
tomreynyou could check the specific model number: PSC00C-01U00P should be printed on the bottom of your laptop04:49
hell_firethats not my odel number04:49
tomreynso which is yours?04:49
hell_fireit psc2ug04:49
tomreynthe log looks fine, though, so i guess there's no need to upgrade bios04:49
hell_fireoh okay04:49
hell_firethen after upgrade there won't be any new options in bios??04:50
tomreynmaybe, maybe not, i don't know.04:51

clarkkapparmor is preventing an app from starting. Can someone help me fix it?  I'm also concerned that the app is trying to "rmdir".  What exactly is it trying to remove?  I don't want it to remove the directory in named in the log.  http://paste.debian.net/plainh/8f587fc322:37
TJ-clarkk: you'd need to ask the publisher of that snap22:39
clarkkok, if we disregard that, how would I theoretically allow these actions?  I can see the app listed in aa-status22:40
clarkkso it must have a profile, mustn't it?  How can I locate that aa profile?22:40
TJ-clarkk: I don't know how snap manages the profiles but I think I saw or read recently they're someplace else than in /etc/apparmor.d/22:42
clarkkI looked in there. That app isn't mentioned at all in any of the files in that directory22:42

clarkkwhat does this mean?  requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r" fsuid=1000 ouid=100022:50
clarkkthe app is installed in /dev/loop38        68608     68608         0 100% /snap/tradingview/922:53
clarkkI can't find any reference to apparmor in it tho22:54
