[05:30] I mean, Ubuntu flavors are still Ubuntu. :3 [07:52] Hi there. Is there a way to install aqualung without compilation? I get errors compiling it from source and I don't have the time to fiddle with it right now. [07:53] digibit: Did you try downloading it from an old source and installing it by hand? [07:54] search the package on packages.ubuntu.com, download it, and install it by hand with `dpkg -i $PACKAGE` [07:54] I [07:55] I'll give it a try. Thanks gnrp! [17:35] not sure if this is the best place for the question but I've got a weird situation, I'm not sure how to google my way out :) I had a apt-cacher-ng server on my network, I moved that service to another machine, it uses the 'avahi' magic to announce itself. Computers on my network with 'squid-deb-proxy-client' error out trying to contact the old server even if the old server does not run apt-cacher-ng, or is [17:35] removed from the network. [17:53] gimzmoe: i'd try asking this on #ubuntu-server or #ubuntu - larger audience, and your question is not xubuntu specific [17:54] Hey gang, if anyone would like to assist in trying to verify a grub-mkconfig feature, I'd like that very much. :) [17:55] Mainly, there's this option in /etc/default/grub called GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_UUID, and if set true, should use /dev -style paths for setting root. [17:56] But I found that it doesn't work in my case, which is 20.05 (grub-common version 2.04-1ubuntu26.13). If you have a newer release, could you please try setting that option, and seeing whether the change is there? [17:57] If you run grub-mkconfig without the -o option, it just prints it to stdout, and there's no fear in breaking your setup. :) [17:59] Oh, and yeah, as it stands, there are "set root='lvmid=bGdslGKL...'" lines in /boot/grub/grub.cfg, but it doesn't get updated after a resize of LVM volume group. [18:00] This in turn results in "grub rescue >" during next boot, and there's nothing you can do. Nothing, when we're talking about an installation as a guest in virtualbox, with USB ports closed by company policy. [18:03] by "20.05", do oyu mean "Xubuntu 20.04 LTS"? [18:05] by "resize of LVM volume group", do you mean adding PVs or removing any? I don't think the VG lvmid would change then, though. [18:06] tomreyn: lol... seems quite obvious now [18:07] tomreyn: Yes, sorry, a typo. Xubuntu 20.04 LTS indeed. And with LVM, I have added a new PV to a VG, and then resized the filesystem. This changes the UUID of the partition, and grub cannot find /boot any longer. [18:08] Or rather, /root, sorry. === genii-core is now known as genii [18:08] Because /boot/grub/grub.cfg is generated, modifying it by hand isn't an option, as it gets faulty again after the next kernel update. [18:10] I looked for a bug on savannah for this, as someone had a fix for this back in '17, but apparently it was never properly reported and fixed, or it has been fixed quietly in the background. [18:11] So I could try and install a newer .deb, but will not unless I get a confirmation it works on newer releases. [18:40] i used rufus to install Xubuntu 20.10 along side windows on my new hp pavilion lap top so far no issues [19:49] jdwwatts: there is an issue, though [19:49] !20.10 [19:49] Ubuntu 20.10 (Groovy Gorilla) was the 33rd release of Ubuntu, support ended July 22nd, 2021. See !eol and https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-announce/2021-June/000269.html [19:49] but you probably just meant 21.10 [20:11] lets check and see [20:14] yesn thats right 21_10
