seb128GunnarHj, hey, any chance you could do the gnome-user-docs 41 merge from Debian?11:36
seb128tjaalton, hey, could you do the alsa merges sponsoring for Hui?11:36
GunnarHjseb128: I will, but was planning to wait until at least 41.1 is available.11:40
tjaaltonseb128: yes, where?11:53
seb128tjaalton, thanks, https://code.launchpad.net/~hui.wang/ubuntu/+source/alsa-lib/+git/alsa-lib/+merge/412118 https://code.launchpad.net/~hui.wang/ubuntu/+source/alsa-utils/+git/alsa-utils/+ref/merge https://code.launchpad.net/~hui.wang/ubuntu/+source/alsa-plugins/+git/alsa-plugins/+ref/merge14:26
seb128tjaalton, unsure why he didn't mp the utils and plugins one, perhaps because they require lib and he wanted that uploaded first?14:26
schopinHi all! I have two questions related to the upcoming OpenSSL3 transition: 1. is the Firefox package in the archive going to stick around for jammy? I though it was replaced by a snap, so I didn't bother trying to fix its build, but I still see a package in the jammy archive.15:49
schopinand 2. do you have some ways to test WiFi stuff? SPecifically regarding old protocols and stuff. wpa_supplicant might be crippled by the transition as a lot of algorithms are now disabled by default, but it's not caught by autopkgtests.15:51
oerheksanswer 1; firefox is already a snap15:57
oerheksno clue ( read information)  about question 215:58
schopinyep, I just confirmed that on my system firefox is a snap. Still, I'm wondering why we still have the package in the archive?16:04
oerheksconveniance, i guess.16:07
RikMillsThe .deb is still seeded on some flavour images for now. AFAIK, that will have to change and the .deb will be removed at some point16:24
RikMillstiming of that......16:24
* RikMills shrugs16:24
oSoMoNschopin, the firefox deb will become a transitional package that installs the snap at some point during this cycle, but I don't have an ETA to share16:31
oSoMoNuntil then we continue pushing updates, if there are issues with the openSSL transition don't hesitate to file a bug and assign to me16:33
schopinoSoMoN: well, there's already LP: #1945770 :)16:39
ubottuLaunchpad bug 1945770 in firefox (Ubuntu) "firefox: Fail to build against OpenSSL 3.0" [Undecided, New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/194577016:39
oSoMoNheh, sorry I didn't remember about it16:40
oSoMoNschopin, I'll take a look next week16:40
schopinno worries :)16:41
schopinI'll file a bug for the wpa_supplicant thing too.16:41
ricotzschopin, hi, regarding openssl3 are intentions to use it in favor of gnutls28?16:53
schopinI haven't been aware of any plans involving a mass migration. Do you have particular packages in mind?16:54
ricotzschopin, libreoffice would be one which is using openssl upstream, but in ubuntu/debian gnutls28 is used16:56
ricotzschopin, is debian doing such a migration?16:57
schopinI am sorry, I do not know.16:57
ricotzok, I assumed some master plan here :), like trusting openssl again and use it more widely16:58
schopinI believe we're planning on using it in apt, though. (if I'm not mistaken, juliank?) 16:59
juliankricotz: schopin yes, I want to port apt from gnutls to openssl17:00
juliankricotz: Packages that have backends for both and are APache 2 compatible in license should most likely be switched to openssl 3, yes17:00
juliankgnutls is a lot cleaner, but also a lot more buggy17:00
ricotzjuliank, I see, thanks for the info17:01
juliankI had at least two issues recently because stuff was using gnutls and it did not work whereas openssl worked just fine17:01
juliankit was the let's encrypt root cert expiry, and an incomplete certificate chain17:02
ricotzyes, diverging from upstream defaults (like for libreoffice) might not be the best choice17:03
juliankI wish for a future where gnutls is in universe17:04
juliankheh well no gnutls at all :D17:07
juliankopenssl API is hard17:07
juliankI very much prefer gnutls from the development experience, it's so much cleaner. But nobody tests with it, it's mostly a 2nd choice at best, it randomly fails where openssl works (and no, it does not matter if openssl is right or not), and there are less eyes on it, causing security issues to linger17:10
