ylebars[m]Hello everybody here!11:32
ylebars[m]I am a long time Linux user, I do music with Linux and somehow I have managed never to use Ubuntu studio.11:34
rghHow? 11:34
ylebars[m]Good question?11:34
ylebars[m]I have been using Debian and Fedora for a long time.11:34
rghUsing kxstudio with Debian? 11:35
ylebars[m]Now, I have a computer on which Ubuntu is installed, I wonder if I can simply add repositories from Ubuntu studio on this installation.11:35
ylebars[m]rgh: I have tried Kxstudio repositories, it had always lead me to some troubles.11:36
rghylebars: sudo apt install ubuntustudio-installer 11:36
ylebars[m]rgh: Alright, I will try this very soon, probably today. Thank you!11:37
rghA bit misleading name because it installs us packages not the whole distro 11:37
ylebars[m](Why on earth have I never tried this?)11:37
rghAlso manages the lowlatency tweaks 11:37
ylebars[m]Good!11:37
rghIt's brilliant 11:37
ylebars[m]rgh: I have configured PAM anyway, but it is still good that there is some automatic way to check out my configuration.11:38
rghAlthough remember Ubuntu Studio is Ubuntu, so all Ubuntu Studio packages are in Ubuntu (and vice versa) 11:38
rghThe installer is just very convenient. 11:39
rghI'm on 20.04 so I enabled the backport packages. Dunno how much use that is on latest Ubuntu. 11:40
ylebars[m]The computer I am talking about is on 21.10.11:40
ylebars[m]Still, it turns out it uses Jack1, not Jack2. Maybe the troubles I have come from there.11:41
MauroGaspari[m]ylebars: xkstudio repos are not recommended. also if you can, before adding studio-installer to an ubuntu flavour, I recommend a snapshot with timeshift or full image with clonezilla. especially if this is your first time11:44
rghI was talking about Debian + KX 11:45
* rgh is gonna walk the dog11:45
MauroGaspari[m]oh got it rgh sorry did not get that11:45
MauroGaspari[m]ylebars: I am no audio wizard but I wrote a few tutorials on how to do basic audio setup on both ubuntu studio and also on another ubuntu flavour with studio-tools added later. feel free to have a look: https://frontpagelinux.com/author/ilvipero/11:46
ylebars[m]MauroGaspari[m]: Thank you, I will carefully read this.11:48
ylebars[m]Anyway, I am a member of the French community Linux-mao, I have already some documentation on how to set up the system.11:48
MauroGaspari[m]ylebars: excellent! but be warned... once you try JACK, there is no going back! 😅😄11:48
ylebars[m]MauroGaspari[m]: Well, it’s been more than ten years I am using Jack.11:49
ylebars[m]But you’re right: there is no way I will throw it away!11:49
MauroGaspari[m]I hope you will enjoy Ubuntu Studio. Remember to submit feedback, it all helps. For non support related chat, you can join this channel: https://matrix.to/#/#ubuntu-studio-offtopic:matrix.org11:51
vltHello everyone!  I just installed https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntustudio/releases/20.04.3/release/ubuntustudio-20.04.3-dvd-amd64.iso and twice got an error at the end of the (all defaults) installation process. Maybe during a removal of some lowlatency kernel images (screenshots: https://imgur.com/hpGLTia and https://imgur.com/u9Kn2Sk )13:31
vltThe vmlinuz...-lowlatency kernel specified by grub.cfg is not found and to boot I have to manually edit it to use the symlink to the normal 5.10.0 kernel and I have to add the whole "initrd /boot/imitrd.img" line which is missing.13:33
vltTrying to run `update-grub` complains abouts syntax errors: https://termbin.com/1a6g13:35
vlt`chmod -x /etc/grub.d/09_lowlatency; chmod +x /etc/grub.d/10_linux; update-grub` works. I'll try to boot now and brb.13:37
vltI could boot now without editing the grub menu.13:40
vltAny idea how to fix this?13:40
vltThis is /etc/grub.d/09_lowlatency: https://termbin.com/9i7413:42
vltTo clear up my initial post a bit: I installed *twice* and both times got the same error.13:44
ylebars[m]Hey guys!21:00
ylebars[m]Is it possible to get some help configuring Pipewire?21:00
ylebars[m]I am running Ubuntu 21.10.21:00
ylebars[m]I use a Clarett 4 Pre USB.21:00
ylebars[m]* use a Focusrite Clarett 421:02
ylebars[m]Running Jack, for instance with QJackCtl, I can get some from usual Jack applications, for instance with QSynth.21:02
ylebars[m]But, I cannot get system sounds.21:02
ylebars[m]I have installed Pipewire-pulse:21:03
ylebars[m]$ aptitude search pipewire-pulse21:04
ylebars[m]i A pipewire-pulse                  - PipeWire PulseAudio daemon                21:04
ylebars[m]p   pipewire-pulse:i386             - PipeWire PulseAudio daemon21:04
ylebars[m]But `pact-info` does not indicates I am running Pulseaudio over Pipewire, but only Pulseaudio:21:06
ylebars[m]```bash21:06
ylebars[m] * ```bash21:06
ylebars[m]```21:06
ylebars[m] * ```Bash... (full message at https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/libera.chat/c88d4ccf66ac49b8e0af43a93b959c75e857ad5f)21:07
ylebars[m]I am not sure: should I do the what’s indicate as obsolete on this webpage: https://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2021/05/enable-pipewire-audio-service-ubuntu-21-04/21:08
ylebars[m]s/indicate/indicated/21:09
ylebars[m]Alright, I eventualy followed this:21:50
ylebars[m]https://pipewire-debian.github.io/pipewire-debian/21:50
ylebars[m]Now, I am running Pulseaudio over PipeWire, good!21:51
ylebars[m]But I have some trouble with Discord: on vocal channel, people can hear me, but I cannot hear anything.21:52
ylebars[m]I cannot find any information on what is happening, neither on how to solve this …21:53
ylebars[m]Well, not knowing what to do, I have reset Discord settings and sound came back.21:57
ylebars[m]Problems solved, thank you!21:57
