[11:32] Hello everybody here! [11:34] I am a long time Linux user, I do music with Linux and somehow I have managed never to use Ubuntu studio. [11:34] How? [11:34] Good question? [11:34] I have been using Debian and Fedora for a long time. [11:35] Using kxstudio with Debian? [11:35] Now, I have a computer on which Ubuntu is installed, I wonder if I can simply add repositories from Ubuntu studio on this installation. [11:36] rgh: I have tried Kxstudio repositories, it had always lead me to some troubles. [11:36] ylebars: sudo apt install ubuntustudio-installer [11:37] rgh: Alright, I will try this very soon, probably today. Thank you! [11:37] A bit misleading name because it installs us packages not the whole distro [11:37] (Why on earth have I never tried this?) [11:37] Also manages the lowlatency tweaks [11:37] Good! [11:37] It's brilliant [11:38] rgh: I have configured PAM anyway, but it is still good that there is some automatic way to check out my configuration. [11:38] Although remember Ubuntu Studio is Ubuntu, so all Ubuntu Studio packages are in Ubuntu (and vice versa) [11:39] The installer is just very convenient. [11:40] I'm on 20.04 so I enabled the backport packages. Dunno how much use that is on latest Ubuntu. [11:40] The computer I am talking about is on 21.10. [11:41] Still, it turns out it uses Jack1, not Jack2. Maybe the troubles I have come from there. [11:44] ylebars: xkstudio repos are not recommended. also if you can, before adding studio-installer to an ubuntu flavour, I recommend a snapshot with timeshift or full image with clonezilla. especially if this is your first time [11:45] I was talking about Debian + KX [11:45] * rgh is gonna walk the dog [11:45] oh got it rgh sorry did not get that [11:46] ylebars: I am no audio wizard but I wrote a few tutorials on how to do basic audio setup on both ubuntu studio and also on another ubuntu flavour with studio-tools added later. feel free to have a look: https://frontpagelinux.com/author/ilvipero/ [11:48] MauroGaspari[m]: Thank you, I will carefully read this. [11:48] Anyway, I am a member of the French community Linux-mao, I have already some documentation on how to set up the system. [11:48] ylebars: excellent! but be warned... once you try JACK, there is no going back! 😅😄 [11:49] MauroGaspari[m]: Well, it’s been more than ten years I am using Jack. [11:49] But you’re right: there is no way I will throw it away! [11:51] I hope you will enjoy Ubuntu Studio. Remember to submit feedback, it all helps. I just installed https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntustudio/releases/20.04.3/release/ubuntustudio-20.04.3-dvd-amd64.iso and twice got an error at the end of the (all defaults) installation process. Maybe during a removal of some lowlatency kernel images (screenshots: https://imgur.com/hpGLTia and https://imgur.com/u9Kn2Sk ) [13:33] The vmlinuz...-lowlatency kernel specified by grub.cfg is not found and to boot I have to manually edit it to use the symlink to the normal 5.10.0 kernel and I have to add the whole "initrd /boot/imitrd.img" line which is missing. [13:35] Trying to run `update-grub` complains abouts syntax errors: https://termbin.com/1a6g [13:37] `chmod -x /etc/grub.d/09_lowlatency; chmod +x /etc/grub.d/10_linux; update-grub` works. I'll try to boot now and brb. [13:40] I could boot now without editing the grub menu. [13:40] Any idea how to fix this? [13:42] This is /etc/grub.d/09_lowlatency: https://termbin.com/9i74 [13:44] To clear up my initial post a bit: I installed *twice* and both times got the same error. [21:00] Hey guys! [21:00] Is it possible to get some help configuring Pipewire? [21:00] I am running Ubuntu 21.10. [21:00] I use a Clarett 4 Pre USB. [21:02] * use a Focusrite Clarett 4 [21:02] Running Jack, for instance with QJackCtl, I can get some from usual Jack applications, for instance with QSynth. [21:02] But, I cannot get system sounds. [21:03] I have installed Pipewire-pulse: [21:04] $ aptitude search pipewire-pulse [21:04] i A pipewire-pulse - PipeWire PulseAudio daemon [21:04] p pipewire-pulse:i386 - PipeWire PulseAudio daemon [21:06] But `pact-info` does not indicates I am running Pulseaudio over Pipewire, but only Pulseaudio: [21:06] ```bash [21:06] * ```bash [21:06] ``` [21:07] * ```Bash... (full message at https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/libera.chat/c88d4ccf66ac49b8e0af43a93b959c75e857ad5f) [21:08] I am not sure: should I do the what’s indicate as obsolete on this webpage: https://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2021/05/enable-pipewire-audio-service-ubuntu-21-04/ [21:09] s/indicate/indicated/ [21:50] Alright, I eventualy followed this: [21:50] https://pipewire-debian.github.io/pipewire-debian/ [21:51] Now, I am running Pulseaudio over PipeWire, good! [21:52] But I have some trouble with Discord: on vocal channel, people can hear me, but I cannot hear anything. [21:53] I cannot find any information on what is happening, neither on how to solve this … [21:57] Well, not knowing what to do, I have reset Discord settings and sound came back. [21:57] Problems solved, thank you! [21:57] Software can be as fickle as a teenager who's had one latte too many :D
