=== genii is now known as genii-core [00:20] hello [01:51] what does it mean if i entered command "ubuntu-drivers devices" and it return nothing? does my system cant detect my gpu? running on 21.10 [01:56] gholarom: it does not mean this. it means that no hardware was detected that would require proprietary drivers. [01:57] i.e. things are how they should be, yeay! [01:57] ah good then :) [01:57] note i'm guessing there, because i don't know which hardware you really have [01:58] i just found out that my gpu is no longer supported by nvidia haha [01:59] by the way, for questions which are not specific to xubuntu's wnidow manager and graphical user interface (such as the above, anything about drivers and the kernel), you can also ask in #ubuntu (and maybe get a faster reply) [01:59] ok, i'll try that [01:59] hmm so if you have an old nvidia gpu then maybe only the nouveau driver is usable. [02:01] yeah it used to work on ubuntu 20 but ubuntu 21 doesnt have it. at least nouveau is here [02:02] !yy.mm [02:02] Ubuntu version numbers are: YY.MM (YY=release year,MM=release month). Each year sees two releases, so just specifying YY is imprecise. See also https://www.ubuntu.com/about/release-cycle [07:11] qualcuno che parla italiano? [07:12] tersite, hi [07:12] ciao [07:13] Ihave a problem with metapackage xubuntu-restricted-extra [07:13] unable to load :( [07:13] Ask first [07:13] What error messages? [07:13] sudo apt install xubuntu-restricted-extras [07:14] Impossibile trovare il pacchetto xubuntu-restricted-extras [07:14] tersite, version of Ubuntu? Also, check out #ubuntu-it [07:15] The package is actually `xubuntu-restricted-addons` or `ubuntu-restricted-extras ` [07:15] xubuntu 20.04 fresh instalation [07:16] tersite, `sudo apt update && apt install ubuntu-restricted-extras` [07:16] Try this pipeline (two commands). [07:16] can i try to install ubuntu-restricted-extras' [07:16] :) [07:17] Yes, you can but always `apt update` first. [07:17] To make sure apt fetches the latest sources from the repositories. [07:18] already done [07:18] Ah, good. [07:18] I copied the sources.list from ubuntu site [07:18] You don't have to do that. [07:19] If it's a fresh installation, the lines are already included (just commented out). [07:20] got it [07:20] tersite, if `ubuntu-restricted-extras` doesn't give you what you want, you can then try `xubuntu-restricted-addons`. [07:22] ok thank you [07:22] Uploaded file: https://uploads.kiwiirc.com/files/cef1770a4fd1666717c49f315b0610b8/Istantanea_2021-12-04_08-21-35.png [07:22] You're welcome. [07:23] this is my sources.list It looks like ok [07:24] tersite, do you really need to fetch source code as well? The `deb-src` part will tell apt to download source code of software as well, which then you can compile yourself. [07:25] If you don't need that, I recommend you to revert the sources.list back to its original state. [07:26] ok thanks a lot :) [07:28] No problem. Just remember that all this can be done via GUI as well. The Software & Updates app should suffice. [07:32] I konow :) [07:32] it works You saved my life :) [07:34] Awesome! [11:31] ciao [11:31] hello world [11:31] a saluti [11:32] attia [11:32] avvui [11:33] aa [11:55] i want to input Chinese but i have no idea, and i can't find any page helpful. my xfce is running on ubuntu. [11:55] i need help may [11:59] wtf man [12:00] I told the installer not to download shit from the net and yet it is doing so [12:00] 20.04 lts [12:32] how do you install steam on xubuntu? [12:34] same as you do on ubuntu i guess, just google it, there should be tutorials/how to's enough out there [12:39] do you really think i would be asking if it was that easy.. [14:33] doesn't steam provide an installer script [14:59] they are gone, pointless to keep going on about it [15:26] oh [15:26] hadnt noticed the quit
