IrcsomeBot<blinkengine> Hey there13:55
=== genii-core is now known as genii
PleaseI asked this question in ubuntu's channel but it seems that it is not something universal so I'm going to ask it here to see if it is a kubuntu specific thing or not. What is this new installing updates screen during splash screen? This is really annoying. We never had such a thing in linux that requires double reboots to install an update! Did we copy Microsoft Windows? I see regular updates that requires reboot and during reboot, after grub and loading16:46
Pleasekernel, splash screen will show installing updates XX% and then requires another reboot after that. I'm using ubuntu 21.10 for desktop and right now I don't have any pictures. But I will grab one as soon as it happens16:46
Maikafaik it's a KDE thing16:50
Maikseen and heard about it in a video on youtube while someone used Fedora KDE iirc16:50
PleaseWhy would kde requires updates during boot process and additional reboot after that?16:51

tomreynthere's this https://blog.neon.kde.org/2021/04/01/offline-updates-are-here/16:53
tomreynbut then, kde neon is not kubuntu16:55
PleaseIt is exactly something like this: https://blog.neon.kde.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Screenshot_neonUEFI_2021-03-01_151815-1024x684.png16:56
PleaseBut with Kubuntu logo16:56
PleaseAlright, this is something related to Discover which I use to get automatic updates. It schedules downloaded packages to be installed in the next system reboot.16:58
tomreyni'm guessing that you're using some PPA which provides newer / different software and thus introduced this feature on your system17:03
tomreyni doubt kubuntu owould introduce such changes within a release and not mention them in the release notes (they are not mentioned in the 21.10 release notes, have not checked earlier ones).17:04
PleaseNo, as the blog post explains, it's related to auto update features of Discover. So if you don't use that, you'll not experience it.17:05
tomreynthe blog post i linked to is about kde neon, a rolling release model distro, introducing this feature in april this year. they may well be using a different version of discover, with different defaults, than kubuntu17:06
PleaseI don't know. All I'm seeing here is that it is happening now. I've discovered this feature since 21.0417:09
Maiktomreyn: Neon isn't actually a rolling release model at all according to the devs17:13
Maikthe distro is ubuntu LTS based, only the desktop components are updated once a new KDE Plasma version is released17:15
Maiksorry for going offtopic here17:16
MaikPlease: also it's best not to cross post things :)17:17
tomreynMaik: hmm, looks like you're mostly right, and i'm mostly wrong. there seem to be the stable release model "user edition", which i guess can call the default, and three editions for developers.17:19
tomreynthanks for pointing this out.17:19
PleaseFirst, I didn't know if it is something not related to ubuntu. Then I started asking it here after everyone at #ubuntu said they did not have seen something like that. So I thought maybe it is something related to Kubuntu.  And I started asking it to find out what this is which now it appears to be related to KDE. So at first, I didn't know what this is about.17:20
Maiktomreyn: you're welcome :)17:21
PleaseAh, another question. After upgrading to 21.10, I am continuously facing a bug related to dolphin. Should I wait until the next release to receive the fixture because I see it has been reported in KDE bugtracker and bug fix has been reported. But I don't know if Ubuntu/Kubuntu releases these bug fixes or not.17:23
tomreyn!bug | Please17:50
ubottuPlease: If you find a bug in Ubuntu or any of its official !flavors, please report it using the command « ubuntu-bug <package> » - See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs for other ways to report bugs.17:50
guruprasadPlease, the latest released version of the KDE Plasma desktop, 5.23, is available on Kubuntu 21.10 via the backports PPA. If your risk apetite allows for installing newer stuff from the backports PPA, you can give that a try. Otherwise, you will have to wait till the next Kubuntu release, 22.04, is out.17:51
tomreynPlease: if it's not yet fixed upstream, chances of an in-release fix are not that great, though, unless it's a major issue.17:51
guruprasadThe backports PPA repository is an unsupported channel. See https://community.kde.org/Kubuntu/PPAs#Kubuntu_Backports17:53
tomreyn<tomreyn> i'm guessing that you're using some PPA which provides newer / different software and thus introduced this feature on your system17:59
PleaseI only use visual studio code and docker repositories in addition to default repositories and I'm sure they don't provide any newer versions of KDE and or additional features. Beside that this bug was already reported in KDE community. So it's not new. The only thing I was wondered to know was that if we will receive an update to fix this bug during the lifetime of this release of kubuntu (21.10) or we have to wait until the next release which.18:05
tomreynis there a bug report against kubuntu 21.10, yet?18:09
Pleasetomreyn: I don't know. I'll check it. but here's the bug report for KDE https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=44354018:21
ubottuKDE bug 443540 in ark "Dolphin crashes after packing directory to 7z" [Crash, Resolved: Fixed]18:21
Pleasetomreyn: Where can I see if there's a bug reported against kubuntu? :D18:28
tomreynon launchpad, it's all called "ubuntu" there for the project. then look for the relevant package18:36
PleaseDone reporting it :D18:52
tomreynPlease: see what ubottu told you about using ubuntu-bug, though19:10
tomreynyou can use     apport-collect 1955177     on the affected system to add the missing environment details19:11
keithzgIs there a way to set custom user agents in Falkon? (Apparently my province has decided I cannot access my health records if I'm using Linux, through a browser user agent check---what a blast from the past!)20:42
oerheksFalkon, i read there's a built-in function to modify your user agent with no need for an extension https://wiki.debian.org/Falkon20:56
IrcsomeBot<nocturnalbeing> Hi :) where do i have to ask, if I have a device with unsupported hardware?20:58
