tantalaumera[m] | Hi, are there any plan to include Cinelerra-GG in future Ubuntu Studio release? | 12:59 |

billytrip[m] | I recently installed US 20.04 (21.10 would not install) . I really do not care for the xcfe desktop as I plan to make this my main machine. I've done some reading but it is not clear to me that I have the option of installing a less minimalist desktop. Do I? Which one(s)?--- | 16:15 |
MoonsofMoons[m] | Ubuntu Studio is not really DE specific. The included software and the low-latency kernel are the meat and potatoes so to speak. If you in stall a different DE (Gnome, Plasma, etc.) it should be fine. Since you already have a bunch of primarily GTK based apps (because Xfce), installing Gnome rather than KDE would be cleaner I guess. | 16:52 |
MoonsofMoons[m] | s/in/install/, s/stall// | 16:52 |
MoonsofMoons[m] | Might be simpler to figure out why you couldn't get 21.10 to install though. | 16:58 |
tarzeau | tantalaumera[m]: if we get to package it for debian? | 19:12 |
tarzeau | tantalaumera[m]: i guess #331072 should be renamed to cinelerra-gg, rename to ITP: check if it builds without non-free stuff, then test it. can you test it? | 19:17 |
tarzeau | i've played/packaged with olive-editor, flowblad, and shotcut... | 19:17 |
billytrip[m] | > Might be simpler to figure out why you couldn't get 21.10 to install though. - Well upon install it printed on a blank screen one sentence I forget, followed by "Failed to install Disk Manager" then "Failed to install Modem Manager" and then "Failed to install ???? (I forget this one) and then it just quit. I googled the error messages and got no where. I basically had no thread to pull at that point so I punted to 20.04. That | 19:29 |
billytrip[m] | was before I found out that the subsequently upgraded the desktop. | 19:29 |
billytrip[m] | Sorry for the botched message - I'm still learning this thing :) | 19:31 |
MoonsofMoons[m] | Understood. Those are very strange messages to see during a Linux installation. I would guess something went wrong burning the iso. What tool did you use to create the bootable install media? | 19:56 |
billytrip[m] | <MoonsofMoons[m]> "Understood. Those are very..." <- brasero. I used to same method to create the second (20,04) disk. I guess burning another one wouldn't be too much trouble, worth a try probably less hassle than installing a new DE :) | 20:26 |

billytrip[m] | a "daily driver"?/ | 20:28 |
MoonsofMoons[m] | I use 21.10 without issues and have for several months | 20:29 |
MoonsofMoons[m] | Are you burning a DVD or USB? For USB I suggest trying Etcher | 20:30 |
MoonsofMoons[m] | https://www.balena.io/etcher/ | 20:31 |
billytrip[m] | MoonsofMoons[m]: I burned a DVD. I didn't have a USB large enough handy. I'm going to try again. I haven't done much to this install so writing over it would not be a problem. And even though DVD writes are "verified" I am aware that it is the modern version of a tape drive, i.e. not particularly reliable. And that would explain why I got nowhere looking answers on the web. | 20:33 |
