I ran apt-get upgrade as well, and rebooted afterwards, but have the same failures: apt-get update fails with could not connect/connection refused, "wget ppa.launchpad.net" succeeds, wget of debian file fails with connection refused. | 15:22 |

| malcom2073 | Heh, absolutely not my ISP is terribly behaved: Verizon wireless. That being said, I've now tested on two different computers, one on WiFi, and one on Ethernet to the same router. Neither had the issue, and both were able to apt-get update and wget successfully, so it's gotta be something on this computer. | malcom2073 | So I reinstalled, but had the same issue. Did an apt-get upgrade, same issue. Found a random site on google that suggested that invalid certificates can cause this, so I reinstalled ca-certificates and now when I run apt-get update, it works about 20% of the time, and says connection refused for the other 80%. Also, us.archive.ubuntu.com has started having the same issue | 16:17 |

The hardware is quite literally 12 years old, so I'm going to make do with this to get things done until new hardware comes in next week and then throw it in the trash | 17:05 |
