[20:04] Does anyone here use hybrid Nvidia on Kubunto 20.04 with dual monitors? I can't start the system with compiz: the windows are misshapen and the font is different, in addition to the screen resolution in lightdm which is of a strange size, divided wrongly. [20:07] EMWE [20:08] Does anyone here use hybrid Nvidia on Kubuntu 20.04 with dual monitors? I can't start the system nicely: windows are misshapen and the font is different, in addition to the screen resolution in Lightdm which is of a strange size, divided wrongly. [20:44] : ) [21:35] how to make a test if apport popup is working? how to make some crash? in terminal kill -SIGBUS $$ crashes terminal, makes .crash file, but apport doesnt come. i think something is broken and i got 2x for chromium not opening a crash report come up when it crashed, but after 3rd time crashin apport not reacting. how to make apport to come. to crash terminal or something. i think error report not comming up and not notification [21:35] or buuble notification https://askubuntu.com/questions/1388387/how-to-make-fake-apport-crash-to-come-up-in-notification-and-bar-so-i-can-test [21:36] how many times more do you want to ask? [21:50] @Maik peple who can answer are busy so need to wait different days times. How else to find who knows how to triage and find why apport not working? [22:43] is there a way to install kubuntu without creating a live-usb-like device? I have two separate drives and I want to make an installation on the second drive. [22:44] I think I could create grub on the second drive and then copy the files I have from the current installation to a new ext4 partition? [22:46] I think it's a lot less cumbersome to do a liveusb after all :/ [22:46] you can run in a VM from an ISO [22:46] I'll try that [22:46] didn't think of it, not sure if it will work though, but seems interesting [22:46] that's how we often do testing [22:46] it's pretty easy [22:47] just ensure that you can find the iso [22:47] lol [22:47] I have downloaded a 21.10 iso [22:47] a lot less cumbersome ... [22:54] hello [22:55] first time using this service, im i talking to a real person? [22:55] yes, there are multiple people here [22:55] anyway - installing from vm seriously works lol, that's great [22:56] ok thanks, my internet is dead and i have no hotspot. is there any way i can download kububtu apps from my android phone and then just transfer them to my computer via usb? [22:57] have you tried plugging in your usb and seeing if usb-tethering works? it should share your phone internet with your pc [22:58] i spent all my hotspot data, that includes tethering, ive been looking into bypassing my phone providers hotspot limit, some people say i can do it. but i need to research more [22:59] i can basically go to the rerminal and change tye ipv4 value from 64 to 65, and also i need to use a  vpn but ive tried it unsuccessfully [23:00] so my only option now is to figure out a way to just access the repository from my phone and download them that way [23:01] It should get recognized as a storage device [23:02] youre saying that i can? [23:02] Device notifier should come up and give you options to mount it's filesystem [23:03] wait, first tell me how i can access the ubuntu repositories from my phone pls [23:05] The answer to that question would be a bit more convoluted [23:05] mm... [23:05] let me see what i can find on the internet, thanks for helping. i might be back in a few hours [23:06] 👍👍👍 [23:07] If the thing you are trying to install only has 1 file to download ypou can point your phone's browser to that by navigating the mirror, otherwise you could use the packages.ubuntu.com to see what dependencies you also require to download. Then you would transfer those off your phone's download dir to the dir /var/cache/apt/archives [23:07] they left :( [23:08] ..and too late [23:08] Well, nayhow, that would be the basic process [23:10] wow, I've booted the vm from my physical drive with kubuntu installed on it [23:10] sick [23:11] this means I'll now have a windows vm opened forever [23:11] like, I had no idea you could use drives like that [23:12] should I have made it use lvm? [23:12] I've had some exposure to it and it seemed very useful to me, because I was always kind of messy with planning out my partitions and wanted to try new configurations [23:13] like a separate /home [23:13] but they weren't so easy to change [23:13] but I am afraid that lvm isn't supported by everything and I could mess it up and lose my data :/
