[08:34] <aiky> hello. i have an issue with sound. it's working fine for a little while before i just hear i loud siren-like noise, which continues till i stop what i was listening to. any idea what the cause might be? it's an old atom processor laptop

[09:15] <guiverc> I'd likely see if it does it using a live system (same 21.10), a different kernel stack (20.04 with GA kernel stack the closest I'd go; I mean a very different stack) & ensure it's not cabling/sound-system (grounding issue etc).  aiky 
[09:16] <guiverc> you could look at what kernel module (driver) is being used (`lshw -C sound` for example to get info) & look online to see if it's a common issue with your chipset..

[09:25] <guiverc> Ubuntu LTS releases have kernel stack choices; 20.04 & 20.04.1 media uses the GA stack (ie. 5.4 kernel that remains 5.4; ie. stable);  20.04.2 & later media for Lubuntu uses HWE that changes during life-cycle; 5.8 at 20.04.2, 5.11 at 20.04.3, 5.13 at 20.04.4 (which is what is changing right now..)

[09:36] <aiky> it happened again. been playing a youtube video for 3+ minutes then suddenly that sound started, but the youtube video also stopped for some reason 
[09:39] <aiky> wtf. after exiting the live session, i can no longer boot into my lubuntu installation

[09:41] <aiky> and "error you need to load the kernel first" 
[09:42] <aiky> i thought wiping windows 10 and going with linux on this laptop would be smooth sailing, but no, far from it *sigh*
