[04:54] I installed Lubuntu 16.04 on an older HP laptop. The installation went through, but when the computer boots or reboots I get a message that states “No bootable image found, notebook will be shutdown” The laptop then shuts down [04:54] When I turn on the computer and go into Boot Option I can run it until an option marked Ubuntu [04:55] How can I get the OS to boot automatically when the computer boots up? [04:56] Any advice would be appreciated [05:01] 16.04 is unfortunately EOL and unsupported. [05:02] !eol [05:02] End-Of-Life is when security updates and support for an Ubuntu release stop. Make sure to update Ubuntu before it goes EOL so you get updates promptly for newly-discovered security vulnerabilities. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EOL and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases for more info. Looking to upgrade from an EOL release? See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EOLUpgrades [05:03] is there a way to update the OS for Lubuntu without wiping the hard drive clean? [05:03] no, not for 16.04 [05:04] download a fresh 20.04 LTS iso [05:04] okay [17:09] halo === genii-core is now known as genii [21:34] if i drag an icon from the "start menu" (or whatever its called) to the desktop to create a shortcut, and then I click the shortcut, it says "This file seems to be a desktop entry. What do you want to do with it? Open, Execute, Cancel [21:34] also it has a little (!) icon on it [21:34] how do i make uh, normal desktop icons that just open when you click them? [21:37] https://manual.lubuntu.me/stable/5/5.2/desktop_icons.html [21:37] auctus: maybe there's some info in the manual ^ [21:39] ah, right click and select trusted; i see, thanks [21:40] perhaps that should be the default for things that came with lubuntu, e.g. firefox [21:48] Well, the desktop item you just created by cloning the one from the menu, didn't though. [21:50] i suppose it's difficult, because although firefox is trusted, the contents of the .desktop file could in theory be anything [21:51] The 'trusted' bit only relates to the launcher.
