=== piz is now known as pizza === genii is now known as genii-core [13:45] could someone suggest some good looking webmail interfaces with similar look and feel as gmail or outlook? [can be premium/free both]. [13:49] 'morning [14:26] ahasenack: working today? [14:26] what are some good mail servers that allow easy overviewing of all mailboxes for admin, and setting up custom restrictions like not letting users being able to delete emails from their inbox or some sort of automated backup of all emails that can be restored/retrived? [14:28] utkarsh2102: yeah, handling the libyang2 mir feedback, the last blocker (on our side) for the frr MIR [14:29] personx_: never heard of such restrictions [14:31] well, data retention is very important to my employers so they made the request. how about automated backups of all inboxes, does that seem practical? [14:35] I've heard of that in the context of CC'ing all email to a special account, server-side [14:37] ahasenack, that seems like a good idea. is it possible to setup a mail exchange server to silenty CC all sent/received emails to a special account? [14:37] depends on the mail server, but likely [14:38] now, how to organize all that, that would be tough I think. Imagine all email in a single account, how to filter, select specific emails from specific people, etc [14:38] maybe you are best off with something more complex than just an email server, but an integrated solution. Examples escape me, but some years ago they were popular "exchange replacements" [14:39] but with a very involved installation, comprising web server, calendar, the actual MTA (email), web apps, etc, and they basically "take over" the machine via an installation script [14:41] ahasenack, well, that can still work for us. see, this is the situation I'm in - and well, i'm open to all help and advice. this is what i'm trying to do - my office is currently using google mail servers and its getting very pricy to maintain them plus i told them its very stupid to pay for every single email id individually. xD so now i'm trying to shift the mail hosting from google to our own hosted servers. what pat [14:41] h would you recommend? [14:41] think very carefully about the cost [14:41] bringing it in home has a lot of hidden (and not so hidden) cost [14:42] think backups, disaster recovery, baremetal machine administration (raid storage? disk failures?), how long it takes to recover from a burned down power supply, can you afford to be without email for so long, etc [14:42] OS updates, downtimes [14:43] bugs, who fixes them [14:43] well, i wasn't planning for on-premise hosting, more like setting it up on a good vps [14:43] your time spent on this [14:43] etc [14:46] also, emails and their contents have privacy implications [14:46] gotta go, lunch calls :) [14:47] sure :)
