zwelchhi all... i just upgraded a couple of machines to jammy, and i'm having trouble with apt accessing my local mirror.  It uses a LetsEncrypt certificate, and apt reports it as invalid certificate.  My browsers and older machines can access it fine.  The ca-certificates package is current, which was my first guess.  Any tips?02:17
zwelchincidentally, i can use the Acquire::https::Verify-Peer "false" trick to access it, but that's not the correct solution.02:19
sarnoldzwelch: you may have more luck in #ubuntu-next, there's more folks who run -devel in there02:20
zwelchsarnold: thanks :)02:20

chukowhen i run take a screenshot of a window(area of a window), by pressing Ctrl+Shift and PrintScreen...where on earth is it stored? I am not able to find it inside Pictures Desktop or anywhere else immediately obvious?08:45
chukotypo delete "run"08:46
TheFatherMindWhen you use a keyboard shortcut, the image is automatically saved in your Pictures folder in your home folder with a file name that begins with Screenshot and includes the date and time it was taken. If you do not have a Pictures folder, the images will be saved in your home folder instead.08:47
chukoUbuntu 20.04.3 LTS08:47
TheFatherMindYou can read more about it here... https://help.ubuntu.com/stable/ubuntu-help/screen-shot-record.html08:48
chukoThats what i expected but am unable to find the images in either location08:48
TheFatherMindOh dear08:48
chukois there a way to trace whats happening during the shortcut press (perhaps by viewing the config file;if possible, mapping the shortcut action or like strace does for applications08:50
chukoTheFatherMind, thanks for your help mate, im an idiot lmfao =) alls working as intended but i mistakenly was pressing Ctrl Shift PrintScreen and was able to select the area to screenshot but with the press of Ctrl no image would save08:57

vlmis there a way i could view the manual or info pages of a package without needing to install it?14:51
BluesKajvim, in the terminal: man nameofpackage14:53
vlmBluesKaj, i think for that to work the package needs to be installed already, was thinking more of a way to browse the manual pages or info pages for packages in the repository wihtout installing15:23
leftyfbvlm: google15:24
leftyfbvlm: you can't view files you don't have installed15:24
vlmleftyfb, was thinking more if the pages resides also other places than just in the packages itself in the repository? Is there a way i could install just the manual or info pages for a package without the program itself then?15:26
BluesKajyeah, my apologies vim...haven't used man pages much so i've forgotten the package had to be installed15:26
leftyfbvlm: no15:26
raubvlm: sometimes the manpages are available online15:26
ngotihello15:27
vlmthanks all, its usefull with the pages being availible opn the web aswell, was just thinking it be nice to do this from the all mighty terminal15:27
raubSince the manpages are usually part of a package, it is hard to install them separately. Can be done with manual effort though15:28
raubNot worth the effort IMHO15:29
vlmwas thinking maybe install the source and go from there, but that defeats the purpose of not downloading the program again, oh well15:30
raubDoes anyone know what would make a vnc viewer (in my case, TigerVNC) to decide to act like I have the caps lock key on?15:32
raubssh'ing to the same hosts I am vnc'ing do not have the same issue15:33

mrigHello15:45
mrigI have recently installed ubuntu after using debian for some time, I'd been using the program reaper on debian and it work straight away on there, when I try to run it on ubuntu I'm having some difficulty accessing ALSA; I was wondering if there are any settings that I might need to investigate before being able to run this?15:47
octav1aHello, I'm trying to solve an issue with bluetooth audio. There are two problems: audio delay, and clipping when the audio switches between sound and silence. I've been told to try switching the sound device from "High fidelity playback (A2DP Sink)" to the other option "Headset Head Unit (HSP/HFP)" to attempt this fix. However, this setting doesn't properly "stick" when selected in the menu. I found the terminal command for this to check if there are16:42
octav1aerrors, and there are. I can run "pactl set-card-profile bluez_card.41_42_C1_F5_94_84 headset_head_unit" and I get a reply "Failure: Input/Output error"  . If I try adding sudo to the command, I get "pa_context_connect() failed: Connection refused"16:42
jwpapiI have a link to a debian file on dropbox, how can I add this to my binary path?16:57
zer0funhello everyone.  I am having trouble with my nvidia gpu.  I installed drivers through the additional drivers app and for some reason the app now says I am using a manual driver.17:04
zer0funAnyway to uninstall the drivers and try a newer version?17:04
jhutchinsjwpapi: You would have to mount dropbox as a Linux filesystem first.  It's possible, but not easy.17:05
jhutchinsjwpapi: Chances are that whatever reason you're trying to do this it won't work well, if at all.17:06
jhutchinsjwpapi: What kind of file is it?  Why are you trying to have it on you executable path?17:06
jwpapihttps://www.irccloud.com/pastebin/anf5hXhl/17:06
jwpapijhutchins: apparently you can download a file directly from dropbox if you exchange `dl=0` with `dl=1` so I did `wget url` inside of `/usr/local/bin`17:07
jwpapiNow I have the file there17:07
jwpapiI renamed it to `ipapi`17:07
jwpapiAnd hoped that ipapi as a command would work, but response is `command not found`17:08
leftyfbjwpapi: did you make the file executable?17:08
jwpapiNo that was what the support gave me17:08
jwpapileftyfb: So I guess have to make it executable?17:08
jwpapiworked!!17:09
jwpapiThank you guys17:09
zer0funOk I found a solution and have reinstalled the nvidia drivers, and glxinfo says I am using the nvidia drivers but glxgears only get 65fps.  Is that normal?17:21
cbreakzer0fun: with vsync?17:26
zer0funcbreak I am not sure.  How do I check?17:28
zer0funIf I switch back to the opensource driver I get 4000 fps17:39
zer0funThe frustrating part is it was working a week or so ago.17:40
zer0funWhat is the difference in between the nvidia-driver-510 and the nvidia-driver-470-server?17:42
zer0funI have tried 510 with no luck17:42
cbreakif it writes `Running synchronized to the vertical refresh.  The framerate should be` then it's using vsync17:43
zer0funI am sorry I don't understand where it would write that out?17:45
cbreakstandard output17:58
=== diskin_ is now known as diskin
zer0funcbreak: yes it does when i run glxgears18:01
cbreakthen you can't expect much more frames than your screen can display18:03
zer0funHow do I turn it off?18:06
jhutchinszer0fun: Just a wild guess, but it would be reasonable that 4000 fps was at a lower resolution than 65 fps.18:17
LiblxHello, can I create an USB stick with bootable windows and ubuntu each on another partition?18:46
zer0funSorry connection dropped.  Is there a way to turn off vsync on my video card?  its an rtx 3050 ti18:48
zer0funI found a way to turn it off for the terminal i run glxgears in and the fps go up to 15000.  How do i make it permanent ?18:51
EriC^^zer0fun: what was the way you used19:02
zer0funexport GL_SYNC_TO_VBLANK=019:03
zer0funI can't find the setting in the nvidia gui.19:03
meandrainhi. I want to find out the version of a package that I want to install. I run: apt-cache search pkg_name    but it does not tell me the version name. Any idea how I find out the version without installing it ?20:13
EriC^^meandrain: apt-cache policy <package>20:15
meandrainEriC^^: thank you !20:19
