Guest32Hi, I think I may have found a bug relating to NFSv4 with newer Linux kernels, I imagine a general Linux bug rather than something specific to Ubuntu. Is this a good place to ask whether I should raise a bug against Ubuntu for this or if there is somewhere else I should go?11:08
Guest32I see the issue with Ubuntu 20.04 (all kernels, ie latest 5.13), but not with Ubutnu 16.04 (kernel 4.15). Very briefly, if I have a server with 10Gbit LAN and multiple clients with 1Gbit (all running same Ubuntu version) I see max speeds of under 1Gbit sec with Ubuntu 20.04 when using NFSv4, one client maxes out its 1Gbit connection and the others11:12
Guest32kind of seem to wait. If I force NFSv3 there is no issuse. With Ubuntu 16.04 and NFSv4 there is no issue. Her are a couple of images of iftop from Ubuntu 20.04 compring NFSv4 vs NFSv3 https://ibb.co/XjxQKVr https://ibb.co/mhY3JSR11:12
jpataiasHi, I am using Ubuntu 20.04 and recently I have been having connectivity problems. I only have remote access at the moment but the network is really slow (only on this pc), and can't even access some sites/ips at times. unrhealCould anyone possibly help me install Ubuntu on a USB stick I made from the live bootable desktop ISO 20.04.3 LTS? I have installed Linux hundreds of times since 1992, but when I put the bootable stick in and it starts, flashes a messages for 1/10 of a second, which is then covered by the standard install screen. If I try to install anyway, it19:40
unrhealcauses problems because my drives are /dev/sda, b, c, and d, but the USB stick pushes it's way into sdb, bumping the others up, ruining the fstab, etc.19:40

unrhealI hope I wasn't kicked, i just noticed it said i wasn't connected but no kick message... I tend to hope for common sense when I start, and usually read guideline stuff as I go. Hope it was just the network, I don't want to mess with installing a real irc client while still at the install dialog.. so at the risk of being obnoxious.. did anyone see20:04
unrhealmy question?20:04
sarnoldunrheal: maybe: 19:40:41 < unrheal> Could anyone possibly help me install Ubuntu on a USB stick ...20:05
sarnoldunrheal: but I didn't actually see what problem you had, why the installer wasn't working, etc20:05
geniiBasically, get two usb sticks, put the installer on one, boot to that and choose the other to install the system to20:06
unrhealthank you, at least it got out before i lost connect. ..  Oh..  when I put the usb stick in, it takes /dev/sdb, which then messes my drive order after I reboot, you know what i mean?20:07
geniiIt should be mounting by UUID20:08
unrhealBut if I put in two usb sticks, one will take /dev/sdb and another /dev/sde  (or whatever)20:09
sarnoldsortof; it's pretty common for /dev/sd* names to change on reboots, etc, so I thought our installer used uuids like this for many years already https://termbin.com/5y3t20:09
geniiSo if you power off after installing the system, remove the stick which contained the installer but leave the other, it should boot to that20:09
hamshi! im trying to reinstall openproject because i messed up in the config "sudo openproject configure" so, i purged the package, reinstalled, ran the config again but instead of giving me the prompts it just reconfigures it the wrong way, how can i fix this to get the prompts again?20:10
genii( assuming you install grub to the same drive you installed the system to )20:10
unrhealI have 4 drives in, and just want to install ubuntu (this one) on a partition, so I go into the gpartd-like option "other" or something like that20:10
unrhealI used to have the older grub, but when I installed (I think - another distro at least) debian, it upgraded grub, and caused my other partitions to be unbootable..20:12
sarnoldhams: if you're lucky, 'openproject' is a script that you can just read, and find out where it stores setting. if you're unlucky, it's an executable, and it'll take something else to figure out where the settings are stored20:12
sarnoldhams: does it have a manpage? eg20:12
sarnoldhams: eg "man openproject" -- does that have a FILES section near the end?20:12

unrhealPerhaps there is some way to make the USB stick use some device besides /dev/sdxx ?  (sorry for prev. double post, no idea how)20:14
sarnoldunrheal: there's much more stable names in /dev/disk/by-id/20:15
unrhealI don't recall seeing a way to select anything besides the sdxx in the actual installer's partition/disk manager - did I just miss it? Sorry if I did, I will go try again, if you think so..20:17
unrhealsarnold: not sure if you're pm'ing me.. not at all familiar with this client.. I will go try and attempt using by-id somehow, though I'll have to fix my other fstabs on the other installs... if it works, thank you.. and thank you for your help regardless. jchittumOH, and this is sweet. On Impish (21.10), you can do Settings - Keyboard - (triple dot beside input) - View Keyboard Layout21:53
jchittumon that it shows the UK keyboard, for me, that | is shift + ` on a US keyboard21:54
MonoLThere's three options for us input, (US,alt, intl.) (US, euro on 5) and (US,intl, with dead keys)21:55
MonoLYeah the view keyboard layout is a picture of a full keyboard and it says teh pipe is next to the 1 but this is a 60% and I've got Esc next to my one and seems like no combo will on Esc will display a pipe21:56
MonoLI aliased the word "pipe" to be the actual pipe in bash21:59
MonoLBut it's not ideal, now when i type p it waits for a bit to see if i21:59

jchittumnot ideal at all. You can get into making custom keyboard mappings. If you know the hex, you can start doing things with like xmodmap : https://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/linux-keyboard-custom-remap.html22:01

jchittumor since it's a US based board, maybe setting your input to one of the US layouts will work.
