OvenWerksEickmeyer: maybe before sending people to /issues make sure they have backports enabled. At least one of the two people sent to issues is running 2.2.8 (stock us 21.10 version)18:16
EickmeyerOvenWerks: Yeah, that's fair. I think I got a couple of issues mixed-up. I'm having some medical issues involving headaches and such.18:21
OvenWerksEickmeyer: yeah there are two people with (at first glance) the same problem (known bug in 2.2.8).18:22
EickmeyerRight, I see that.18:23
OvenWerksEickmeyer:  I only pointed it out because it applies to any software not just studio-controls18:23
OvenWerksEickmeyer: I don't think we can enable backports by default but there does not seem to be anything that points people in that direction either18:24
EickmeyerNo, we can't enable backports by default, unfortunately.18:24
EickmeyerI'm not sure how to direct people to enable them.18:25
OvenWerkscan have a first run applet that asks?18:25
OvenWerksor a before you look for help item in the menu?18:26
OvenWerksThe ubuntu ecosystem expects that anything with a bug will be properly backported or SRUed or whatever. we are unique because we feel it is important to offer not only bug fixes but new versions of software.18:27
EickmeyerSomething might be doable. FWIW, the actual ubuntu backports project has been revived, so we might take advantage of that, but that would also require a manual enabling of the ubuntu-backports repo.18:28
EickmeyerI have an idea, but my head feels like it's in a vice today, so I'm not sure I can take any action on it.18:29
OvenWerksEickmeyer: we have been the same here for the last 3 weeks with one or the other in the family18:29
OvenWerksand our ISOs have failed yet again.  :P18:30
EickmeyerYeah, I'm talking to the Launchpad team about that. Seems to be an internal failure.18:31
EickmeyerThey just upgraded the builders from bionic to focal, so that's having an impact.18:31
OvenWerksI figured you were woring on it.18:31
EickmeyerAs far as a first-run popup, we can do that, but it would be English-only and not have translations, unfortunately.18:32
OvenWerksI am thinking to add an item to the Ubuntu Studio Information submenu It should be forced to be the first item (of course) and be labeled: Before You Look For Help (can be language appropriate)18:36
OvenWerksIt would popup a dialog with "blurb" (again could be language appropriate) That says Ubuntustudio is always updating applications even they could not be included in the release. Because many of these revisions include new features they can not be added through normal channels and so the Ubuntu studio team (of 1.5) has created a PPA for these extra updates. Please enable this PPA.18:41
EickmeyerYeah, that could work.18:42
OvenWerksOn the bottom would be three buttons: Enable PPA, update system, exit18:42
EickmeyerYep, a simple kdialog "yes/no/cancel" would do the trick.18:42
EickmeyerYou can relabel the buttons.18:42
OvenWerksupdate system should open dicover in update mode18:43
OvenWerksis it easy with a kdialog to do internationalization?18:44
OvenWerksAlso, what does kdialog pull in? would a qtversion be better?18:47
Eickmeyerkdialog is already installed.18:50
Eickmeyerzenity is another option, if you'd rather go that route.18:51
OvenWerkskdialog is not installed for someone who does studio over ubuntu, I think or does one of our applications pull it in?19:25
EickmeyerOh, I was thinking it's just be for Studio people because those who install Studio over Ubuntu have a glaring button saying "Enable Backports PPA".19:31
EickmeyerOvenWerks: Kidalog does have quite a few kde frameworks dependencies, but if we're making it obvious for those that are running Studio, then it's not a factor.19:32
EickmeyerOvenWerks: As for Installer, it already has a button for enabling it, so people installing over another flavor would see it.19:33
OvenWerksEickmeyer: ok, I get the idea you are more familiar with that than other toolkits, so maybe that is best.20:00
krytarikEickmeyer: LOL, looks like every single subscription using a Gmail address was just disabled on the -devel mailing list due to some authentication error.. XD21:27
krytarikThanks to the image build fail mails of course..21:28
krytarikWe've got 3 weeks now to make sure those are re-enabled again, of course one checkmark per subscription on separate pages per each alphabet character plus numbers, while the subscribers are going to get one warning each week about the impending deletion from the mailing list - and I'm willing to do the clicking on our side sometime.. after the image build issue may hopefully be fixed.21:54
krytarikThe total number is about 230 fwiw.21:55
* OvenWerks guesses he is special then in not having a gmail account :)21:57
Eickmeyerkrytarik: Ouch. Honestly, most of those were idlers I'm willing to bet and not even perticipating. But yeah, that sucks.23:08
