=== guiverc2 is now known as guiverc [12:10] pleia2, bluesabre: our dev server is really slow for me even if i have a relatively decent 100/100 line. very likely because it's in the states. wonder if anything can be done for this. [14:25] Hi, I'm trying to understand the problems I'm having with the panel notification icons on my install [14:25] It's being challenging, as it's not obvious to me what is making a clean install behave so differently from an upgraded install [14:27] On the clean install, notification icons and systray icons work properly, but on the upgraded install, it's being very inconsistent [14:27] Comparing them, I can see that the Indicator Plugin on the clean install shows no icons, while on the upgraded install they are shown there [14:28] On the clean install, the systray shows all icons, while on the upgraded install, systray may or may not show the icons [14:29] Here is a picture showing the difference. Right click on nm-applet was used on both, top is upgraded host, bottom is live VM: https://i.imgur.com/Rvo5B1c.png [14:29] I even tried copying the xml from the VM to the host, kill xfconfd on host to replace it, and it still didn't fix [14:36] Another picture, on VM it shows the nm-applet, on host it doesn't: https://i.imgur.com/jlOK8ac.png [14:36] And I don't know why this difference exists 😭️ [17:10] How do I debug appindicator problems? xfce4-panel fails to show appindicator icons, and even using PANEL_DEBUG, no messages related to appindicator appear. Meanwhile, systray icons debug messages appear [17:22] I think I found the problem: it's the bug 1756627 [17:22] Bug 1756627 in xfce4-statusnotifier-plugin (Ubuntu) "status notifier can't see appindicators which are started after it" [Undecided, Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1756627 [17:22] It's happening with the systray too [17:26] And for systray, I reported bug 1949589 [17:26] Bug 1949589 in xfce4-panel (Ubuntu) "appindicator icons don't appear if they are enabled after the panel was started" [Undecided, New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1949589 [17:37] You have no idea how happy I am that I finally found what was causing this bug. It was annoying me for 4 months!
