xu-irc44wHi, I am back with my problem: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1388628/xubuntu-usb-wifi-driver-lost-with-recent-update?noredirect=1#comment2398458_1388628.   Last time I got recommendation to re-install the OS; yes, that temporarily solved the issue and the antenna got signal again.  But once I ran through updates, puff, gone again.18:36
xu-irc44wIs there another driver that is not affected that you could refer me to?18:36
xu-irc44wI saw two more folks who had the same issue, but I must believe there are more laptops out there that get affected ?18:37
xenoidanyone here?19:30
oerheksMaybe?19:35
oerheksask your real question and find out19:35
* oerheks walks away19:58
tomreynxu-irc44w: i assume, solely based on the message given, "Kernel preparation unnecessary for this kernel. Skipping...", that the kernel version you are running now, does not actually need this out of tree module, but supports it natively. there seems to be another issue, where this out of tree module was built (by dkms) from module source version 5.6.1, but this version is no longer available - apparently the code in the directory dkms builds 20:00
tomreynthe module from has changed.20:00
tomreynand the /var/lib/dkms/rtl88x2bu/5.6.1/build/make.log log should have more info on this second issue20:01
xu-irc44wthanks tomreyn, let me check the log20:31

xu-irc44wthere is no such dir20:35
xu-irc44wdo see options for me?20:37
tomreynxu-irc44w:  so it looks like you removed it? maybe you purged and reinstalled dkms?20:58
tomreynthe moule source seems to be located at /usr/src/rtl88x2bu-5.6.1*21:00
xu-irc44wah, I did not re-install dkms after the re-install of the os, ok, my next step - thanks21:04
xu-irc44whowever, on 2nd thought, you are right, the os did it natively, it does no longer need that driver install - its something in the upgrades that removes that again21:05
xenoidWhen I boot into grub my screen tells me Asus "Out of Range" I wait 15 seconds later and I can boot into xubuntu this is with a HDMI connection cable22:36
xenoidwhen I boot into grub with a vga cable I am able to select either my xubuntu os or my windows 10 os with no issues and boot into both22:36
xenoidhow do I fix this issue?22:36
