Ted_P | I am using Xubuntu 21.10 and finally removed gnome-software after problems with its notifications and update automation. | 15:13 |

Ted_P | Any thoughts on making Synaptic the default software manager? | 15:13 |
rfm | Ted_P, I wouldn't (and don't) Synaptic is pretty old, not actively maintained afaik, and has slightly different methods for deducing automatic installs/removes. If you want to get off ubuntu-software, learn to use the apt cli (it's not hard.) | 15:21 |
Ted_P | Sure, I do actually use apt most of the time with weekly manual updates. What is the problem with "gnome-software" that it doesn't function smoothly and notifications and updates are not user friendly? | 15:24 |
Ted_P | Is there a better package manager? | 15:25 |
rfm | Ted_P, I don't know. apt (and snap) are good enough for me, I only use gnome-software on the rare occasion I want to browse/change a snap's connections | 15:31 |
Ted_P | Thank you. I guess that is good. I'm not keen on "snap" but I understand the idea and utility of it. | 15:33 |
Ted_P | It may be that I should go back to LTS releases in which all the dependencies are worked out. Not sure why "gnome-software" in 21.10 became annoying. | 15:34 |
