[08:04] Issue 2216 in GNOME/mutter "Applications DnD under wayland does not work at times due to serial mismatch (caused by pinging)" [Opened] [08:06] jamesh, what do you think of adding "~/.mozilla/native-messaging-hosts" to the list of paths the webextensions portal searches? (see https://github.com/flatpak/xdg-desktop-portal/pull/705#discussion_r834644685) [08:06] Pull 705 in flatpak/xdg-desktop-portal "webextensions: add a portal for managing WebExtensions native messaging servers" [Open] [08:11] oSoMoN, sounds like an opportunity to get https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/mutter/-/merge_requests/80 in too [08:11] Merge 80 in gnome-team/mutter "Add onscreen-native-Fall-back-if-COPY_MODE_SECONDARY_GPU.patch" [Opened] [08:12] oSoMoN: sure. [08:12] oSoMoN: I'm still not sure why killing x-d-p was causing the communication to unblock. [08:13] jamesh, me neither, I intend to poke at it a bit this morning [08:14] oSoMoN: the patch to not retail the file descriptors after the GetPipes call was my first guess. Not sure how else it could be interfering. [08:24] gnome-shell-extension-harddisk-led tags e0e7b8a Jonathan Carter upstream/30 * https://deb.li/ilPRz [08:42] Thoughts? [09:25] Issue 769 in flatpak/xdg-desktop-portal "parse_app_info_from_snap() sets the app id to 'snap.$AppName', but gnome-shell's access dialog compares it to $DesktopFile" [Open] [09:29] oSoMoN: wil do. The short answer is that we don't have a one-to-one mapping between desktop IDs and package IDs with snaps. [09:30] consider the libreoffice snap, for instance: you've got Writer, Calc, Impress, etc all part of the same security domain [09:35] right, so semantically speaking this is not an "app id" that we're passing to the access dialog API, it's a "package id" [09:39] yes. We could pass a desktop ID to the backend instead, but it feels weird to be making security decisions on that instead. [09:59] oSoMoN: PR has been updated to check per-user paths for native messaging host manifests [10:00] jamesh, thanks [10:05] Hi, all! [10:19] hey cnihelton! [10:34] hey cnihelton [11:55] good morning [12:08] hey jbicha [12:40] afternoon [12:54] Hi jbicha, can you please look at this: [12:54] https://github.com/micheleg/dash-to-dock/pull/1710 [12:54] Pull 1710 in micheleg/dash-to-dock "Move 'Add to Favorites' and 'Remove from Favorites' to dashtodock" [Open] [12:54] I'd like to upload that change now (or rather several weeks ago...). [12:58] GunnarHj: we need to ping Trevinho since he has upstream commit rights, if you want it accepted upstream before uploading to Ubuntu [13:00] jbicha: My thought was to just upload and fix the repo later... But I seek somebody who thinks it makes sense. ;) [13:00] GunnarHj: what do you think about an Ubuntu patch for gnome-shell to rename 'Add to Favorites' back? [13:01] jbicha: Hmm.. That's indeed another option. [13:01] your proposal makes sense & I understand your urgency, but because of the mismatch with gnome-shell, I think we should get Marco's input [13:02] jbicha: Your idea with changing gnome-shell instead has the apparent advantage that we get the translations back, since they are in LP. [13:03] jbicha: So I like that much better. Trevinho? ^ [13:03] that might be best for 22.04 since we're still generally using GNOME 41 docs. Maybe it's a harder decision for next release if it makes our docs diverge [13:04] and the upstream extension probably still needs something done [13:04] jbicha: We'll have time to reconsider it for 22.10. [13:05] jbicha: So what's the conclusion? A gnome-shell patch now for 22.04? [13:06] my suggestion is to wait for Marco to come online and review [13:06] if we patch gnome-shell, we have several other commits we want to add there before uploading [13:07] Ok. [13:07] GunnarHj: can we talk about your concerns about the RDP bug 1968518 ? [13:07] Bug 1968518 in gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) "FFe: Backport new RDP settings" [Undecided, New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1968518 [13:07] jbicha: Sure. [13:08] I was discussing this with some other desktop people. The decision I think is ultimately about whether we want to provide RDP or VNC sharing by default. [13:09] Unfortunately the GNOME implementation doesn't offer a toggle switch to choose the non-default option (which seems very desirable). I think it's available in gsettings but I'm going to look later today. [13:09] jbicha: I see. And my concern is that the documentation which ought to make that clear does not exist. [13:10] my impression is that more of our users would be more comfortable with a RDP implementation, but we don't actually have hard data yet for that theory [13:12] except for the translatability problem, we could add a Desktop Discourse doc page about Remote Desktop and that can go live right away [13:12] oh, lots of missed pings here... let me through... [13:13] go* [13:13] oSoMoN: on that, I've the fix ready already in salsa, but I wanted to do just a more consistent upload, so it's coming [13:14] jbicha: Yeah, a decent discourse page would improve the situation. [13:15] GunnarHj: ok I'm adding that, however I'll handle upload later [13:15] will probably try to include other fixes too [13:16] Trevinho: Ok, good. Did you btw see jbicha's idea with changing back those strings in gnome-shell instead? [13:18] GunnarHj: so, shell idea isn't bad for 22.04, to avoid loosing them indeed... The patch still applies to d2d master though, so please go for it anyways [13:19] jbicha: feel free to add those back to salsa if you want (don't upload for now) [13:20] Trevinho: So is it ok if I prepare a gnome-shell MR in salsa for 22.04? [13:20] GunnarHj: sure [13:20] Ok. Thanks. [13:36] GunnarHj: speaking of locale-related stuff, have you experienced or heard of https://github.com/micheleg/dash-to-dock/issues/1687 in ubuntu too? [13:36] Issue 1687 in micheleg/dash-to-dock "Extension not working when using Turkish locale" [Open] [13:40] Trevinho: No, that was a new one. The only think which comes to mind is that there is some kind of confusion with certain letters in Turkish. Think it's about the letter 'i'. [13:41] GunnarHj: if you can try to replicate... But I've the feeling it's due to the fact they're using master IMHO [13:43] Trevinho: I may give it a try tonight. Now I'll have something to eat, and then I'll fix that favorites label issue. [13:44] thanks! [13:59] also this seems interesting but I can't reproduce it https://github.com/micheleg/dash-to-dock/pull/1656 [13:59] Pull 1656 in micheleg/dash-to-dock "Locations refactory to use native Gio.AppIcon's (for GNOME 42 support)" [Open] [13:59] uff, wrong link [13:59] https://github.com/micheleg/dash-to-dock/issues/1705 [13:59] Issue 1705 in micheleg/dash-to-dock "crashes gnome shell on Ubuntu 22.04 Beta when unplugging external monitor" [Open] [14:03] Trevinho, thanks for taking care of it!
