andrew__how to install gnome maps kde02:26
andrew__i mean install gnome ma ubuntu 22.04 daily02:27
andrew__how to check if i have a daily or beta build of ubuntu02:28
mybalzitchcat /etc/lsb-release02:28
enigma9o7[m]andrew: sudo apt install gnome-maps02:28
enigma9o7[m]to make sur enothing was weird I just insatlled it myself.  Was that really your question?02:29
andrew__yes02:30
andrew__but it does not say if it a daily or beta02:30
andrew__DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu02:30
andrew__DISTRIB_RELEASE=22.0402:30
andrew__DISTRIB_CODENAME=jammy02:30
andrew__DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu Jammy Jellyfish (development branch)"02:30
andrew__this is what it says02:30
enigma9o7[m]Well you should know if you've updated or not.02:30
enigma9o7[m]Who cares what you started with.02:30
mybalzitchthats the "beta"02:30
enigma9o7[m]pretty sure that's everyone02:31
andrew__i turn ubuntu 22.04 into vanilla gnome02:33
andrew__and suddently it become less user friendly02:33
guivercandrew__, it'll say 'development' until it gets changed when jammy reaches RC state (ie. release candidate) and a package goes that that'll change it to 22.04 properly.  development refers to alpha & beta stages.02:34
guivercRC is scheduled to occur on or AFTER 14-April-2021... ie. rather soon now02:34
guivercrelease schedule for Ubuntu jammy can be found here - https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/jammy-jellyfish-release-schedule/2390602:35
enigma9o7[m]andrew, did you try that gnome maps you asked about?  i installed it myself and it seems bugged to me.... tells me im offline (I'm not) and when I type in the search field, every letter is repeated twice.... very strange behavior02:36
andrew__hey02:59
andrew__what more user friendly ubuntu 22.04 or debian 1102:59
mybalzitchdefine user friendly03:02
enigma9o7[m]I think Ubuntu's goal is to be more user friendly.03:03
enigma9o7[m]Although there were probably more differences back when ubuntu was starting out, they are now quite similar in many cases, but there are certainly some touches that ubuntu adds.03:03
enigma9o7[m]debians documentation and user base seems a bit more technical than ubuntus03:04
pmjdebruijn hey, I'm trying to get autoinstall/cloud-init with nocloud working ,but it seems to ignore my config07:43
ravagepmjdebruijn, https://www.molnar-peter.hu/en/ubuntu-jammy-netinstall-pxe.html is the only decent post i could find about it. 07:49
ravagethe official documentation is just useless really07:49
pmjdebruijnravage: I gathered as much yes07:52
pmjdebruijnI've been googled my ass off as well :)07:52
pmjdebruijngoogling*07:52
pmjdebruijn/var/lib/cloud/seed/nocloud/user-data is empty, so presumably it doesn't find my config07:54
pmjdebruijnthough /cdrom/nocloud is present and referenced in /proc/cmdline07:54
pmjdebruijndoh, missing trailing '/'07:56
ravageheh07:57
ravageyes that is a common mistake :D07:57
pmjdebruijnalso, cloud-init analyse show/dump, it less useful than just looking at the logs mysdelf07:57
ravageyes the webserver log is the best way to debug07:58
ravageyou also see the missing / there07:58
pmjdebruijnI'm integration it on the "cdrom" :)07:58
ravageoh ok :07:58
ravagenever tried that07:58
pmjdebruijnpresumably the '/' isn't implied so people can have multiple cloud configs by passing a nondirectory prefix along07:59
pmjdebruijnalso, it seems you can preseed a interactive dialog's option, without automating it entirely08:18
pmjdebruijnso it's either fully automated, or empty and user driven08:19
pmjdebruijnwith d-i, you could setup partitioning from preseed, but still give the user the oppertunity to modify08:19
pmjdebruijnsubiquity feels like it's years behind d-i08:20
pmjdebruijnfor example, it seems I can't automate the user accounts, without also being forced to automate the hostname08:21
ravageTLDR: yes it sucks :)08:29

new_leaphow would I figure out what's going wrong when every single time my screen (laptop) turns off, that the screen never comes back (also doesn't work on 20.04)18:58
guigui64Hello everyone, I am experiencing extremely slow speed with my Atheros AR93xx Wireless Network Adapter (driver ath9k) since I upgraded to 22.04. Previously, I had a >100Mbps bandwidth, now I have 10Mbps...19:00
enigma9o7[m]gnome-maps doesn't seem to work for me.  Is it just me?  It thinks its offline (when it's not). https://i.imgur.com/5SKKcVN.png 20:44
rfmI'm running jammy in a virtualbox VM.  On the login screen, the "gear" icon for selecting session type isn't there.  Is this on purpose? (I would like to go back to X.org since the vbox additions still have problems with Wayland.)  22:14
oerheksecho $XDG_SESSION_TYPE # shows if you run wayland or xorg, my bet; xorg22:18
rfmdefinitely running wayland (I grepped through ps and found wayland running but X.org not)22:20
rfmwas able to force xorg by editing /etc/gdm3/custom.conf but still odd the session menu is gone22:23
enigma9o7[m]There is a session menu....  22:35
enigma9o7[m]but it gets bigger than the screen so i switched to sddm22:38
* enigma9o7[m] uploaded an image: (100KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/zrvNPVHwVOBWLvOxxIaLDQlX/Screenshot%20from%202022-02-08%2019-37-09.png >22:45
enigma9o7[m]I could never figure out how to scroll up and down it once it got bigger than what I could click on.  The keyboard doesnt work, mouse scrollwheel doesnt work.22:45
enigma9o7[m]perhaps this is fixed by now tho, that was in february, and i've switched to sddm since so dunno if its fixed in current.22:46
