WeeBeyMy simple question is, if I have everything up to date on 22.04, is there a method for seeing a certain package as a newer version that is not out on the official repo queried when I use apt? Basically, I'm wondering if a package has a newer version that is not "official" yet, in attempt to get rid of a package bug.11:41

oerheksjust use the standard usb tool? or dd20:09
Maikwebchat3698: or just use Disks  and it's Restore Image feature20:19
webchat3698Here is the bug de install the Nvidia drivers Fack of NVidia https://github.com/balena-io/etcher/issues/3639 and https://github.com/balena-io/etcher/issues/375520:29

webchat76Hello everyone20:33
morganuProject: to concatenate a directory of PDF files to one file in order.  Not paying for acrobat. What is there so I dont have to type in every file name in the directory?21:52
morganudate of madification order I think.21:53
tomreyncombine find and exec for tool which can join pdf files21:57
morganuI dont knoe enough to tell that. exec is a command that executes a file (man says) .. this is unclear.21:59
morganutomreyn,21:59
ravagemorganu, https://www.baeldung.com/linux/find-exec-command22:00
sarnoldmorganu: ghostscript can do that http://zeroset.mnim.org/2016/06/30/merging-multiple-pdfs-into-a-single-pdf-with-ghostscript/22:02
ravagepdftk can do it too22:03
ravageit depends on how custom the order of the files needs to be22:03
ravagethey all support *.pdf22:03
ravageImageMagick is another way22:04
ravageor pdfunite from the popper utils :)22:04
ravagehttps://github.com/pdfarranger/pdfarranger even has a GUI. sorry. done now :)22:05
tomreynimagemagick will probably refrain from reading possibly untrusted PDFs by default now.22:06
morganutomreyn, oh this is really good. 3rd way in bash to send output from one command to another. working on it.22:36
morganuravage, your suggstions sound more workable for the immediate need. order is the order I made the files in/ie modified. .22:38
Polohuh22:38
morganutom, I used pdfunite and the files are rejected. They came from a mac. "couldnt find trailer directory (twice. Couldnt read xref table  and could not merge damaged documents ??22:58
morganuThey came from a mac tomreyn22:58
morganumac often is just a little special.22:59
=== Polo is now known as Josephs
Mister_Xhello guys23:37
Mister_XI'm running into an issue after upgrading from 21.10 to 22.0423:38
Mister_XI can't login anymore23:38
Mister_Xeither it's frozen after trying to login23:38
Mister_Xor it logs me back out immediately (I don't even see the desktop)23:38
Mister_X(using ubuntu 22.04 desktop 64 bit)23:39
Mister_Xit happened on 2 different virtual machines23:39
sarnolduse control+alt+f-keys to get to a console, and try looking through journalctl output to see if you can spot any errors23:39
Mister_Xgood point23:40
Bashing-omMister_X:  "journalctl -p 3 -xb" if you want to filter for errors as a quicky.23:42
Mister_Xthanks for the tip23:43
InPhaseWhat sort of rotation schedule does this systemd journal have?  This is the first I noticed that I have 2.3GB worth of entries in that going back 4 months.  That seems excessive compared to other logging approaches.23:46
sarnoldheh, one of my systems, the journal goes back to Wed 2019-05-2923:47
Bashing-omInPhase: InPhase: None that I am aware of - I perodically run ' journalctl --disk-usage ; journalctl --list-boots ; sudo journalctl --vacuum-size=100M ; sudo journalctl --vacuum-time=2weeks ' to reduce to something more managable.23:49
Mister_Xthere doesn't seem to be anything unusual in journalctl, just some errors with spice-vdagent, and a glib error (I see this error on a newly installed 22.04 working well)23:49
InPhaseBashing-om: That is a strange design choice.23:49
sarnoldInPhase: look for SystemMaxUse= in journald.conf(5), that'll show you a *lot* of different configuration options: https://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/jammy/man5/journald.conf.5.html23:51
InPhaseHmm.  One of my VPS's only goes back about 23 days.  Something must be cleaning it up.23:51
sarnoldyeah, by default it goes by free space23:53
sarnoldit's got a fairly complex formula to try to keep however much logs the available drive space suggests ought to be kept23:53
InPhaseI guess that makes sense.  It has confined itself well on the one system where I don't have space for it to get that big.  This is reasonable enough behavior I suppose.23:54
Mister_Xnow I see some errors. Among them "Failed to start Application launched by gnome-session-binary" and "Failed to start GNOME Shell on Wayland"23:55
Mister_Xany idea? Google doesn't seem to lead me anywhere useful23:59
