=== tom is now known as Guest8615 === chris is now known as Guest8692 [14:11] how to use proxy servers and VPNs in Xubuntu? Or any other methods to get access to a site... [14:16] I mean there are some sites I'm trying to get access to, but I'm stuck since it was kind of easier on Android. Now I can't do anything even in Windows lol. [15:26] xu-help45w: either from browsers network settings or use the network manager applet or run in terminal: nm-connection-editor and add there whatever settings you need, or install Opera browser that has a built-in VPN, there are other methods like Tor but it's more sophisticated. [15:31] diogenes_, thank you a lot! :)  yeah, Firefox is pretty easy to configure. But I googled for a while... and there were no proxies that were working at all :(  Seems like it is hard to find a working one. I also used Tor (since it worked great some years ago) but now... it doesn't. Even after switching between three "bridge" options. Even after [15:31] downloading some lists of bridges. I'll also try Opera [15:35] xu-help45w: there's also OpenVPN, you can download the network template and with settings preconfigured and just apply the template in the network manager applet (it used to work well some time ago). [15:37] diogenes_: I'll try this if Opera doesn't work [15:47] After close & open of laptop lid, the screen freezes/hangs. I am able to move the mouse. But not able click, no keyboard keys respond. I am able to toggle to tty - Ctrl+Alt+[F1-F6]. But when I switch back to Graphical Screen it is still frozen. Can someone guide me how to solve or raise a bug with the appropiate info? [15:50] libin_v: what action did you set for lead closing? [15:54] @diogenes_: I did a refresh install of Xubuntu 22.04, everything seemed fine. I just closed my laptop lid to take a break, and when I opened it, the screen was frozen. I had to issue a `reboot` cmd from the tty, as nothing from the graphical screen was working. I was able to reproduce this issue everytime I closed the lid. [15:59] libin_v: I mean in the power manager settings there are 3 options which tell the PC what to do when the user closes the lid, either to put the PC to sleep, or hibernate or simply switch off the screen, which one of these options did you pick? [16:05] diogenes_, Opera doesn't have VPN (I think it's turned off), I found some settings about blacklistes locations, but it isn't present in some settings file... It's just funny. Whatever I choose, nothing works. [16:06] Google says it should be there, but in my case there's nothing [16:07] xu-help45w_phone: hmm that's strange, try in opera address bar type: opera://flags or chrome://flags and search for vpn [16:09] diogenes_, only this flag: "Selective VPN bypass for default search engines: Default [E]" === libin_v is now known as Guest2337 [16:12] That's weird, then go for OpenVPN for now, sorry I can't check neither Opera nor OpenVPN right now to confirm whether it works. [16:16] It's probably because Opera VPN was banned in my country, so obviously it'll work in yours. Then I'll try OpenVPN, thank you === libinv is now known as libin_v [16:24] Even OpenVPN.... Isn't possible to obtain. I do follow the instructions to download a client for Linux, after the second step bash in the terminal says restricted access... Heck. I see the message from every service: commite suicide for you're not worthy [16:50] I recently upgraded my laptop from Xubuntu 21.10 to 22.04 (fresh Install). I noticed that when I close the laptop lid & open, the screen freezes. I am able to move the mouse, but no clicks & not keyboard keys respond. I am able to toggle to tty (Ctrl-Alt-[F1-F6]). Toggling back to graphical screen, the screen is still frozen. FYI, I have set **When laptop lid is closed** to **Lock Screen** in **Power Manager**. Can someone help me [16:50] or help me investigate to create a bug? [16:55] @diogenes_: Sorry I lost connection last time, [16:55] >>  I mean in the power manager settings there are 3 options which tell the PC what to do when the user closes the lid, either to put the PC to sleep, or hibernate or simply switch off the screen, which one of these options did you pick? [16:55] I am using a Laptop & and on both battery & plugged in mode, I have set **When laptop lid is closed** to **Lock Screen** [16:58] libin_v: does the screen lock work if you trigger it manually without closing the lid? [16:59] @diogenes_: Yes, It does lock & unlock. I just tried - worked for me. [17:02] I noticed that this channel is logged. Is the logs hosted somewhere? [17:02] libin_v: run is terminal: inxi -Fxxc0 | nc termbin.com 9999 [17:02] Share the link [17:02] @diogenes_: https://termbin.com/qh7b [17:08] libin_v: ok, in many cases this issues are caused by the GPU drivers limitations and bugs, in your case you're using your intel GPU with the default open source modesetting driver, you can try and load the system with the non free Intel driver and see what happens. [17:28] @diogenes_: OK, I shall give that a try later. Is there a log file where a reason for the freeze could be dumped? I looked into dmesg, X.org.0.log and did not find any. [17:36] libin_v: it's not that easy to hunt down the issue, you can look at .xsession-errors too [18:13] anyone know of a network-based file system that supports inotify on write? [18:14] nfs and sshfs do not, rsync does (i *think* but it's inconvenient for my purpose), and i'm not sure about cifs [18:25] diogenes_: I did update my drivers with following ppa - https://launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archive/ubuntu/graphics-drivers & now when try to reproduce the scenario -- I get the following dialog - "None of the screen tools ran successfully, the screen will not be locked." - https://imgur.com/8fFlvVe [22:39] hi guys
