[18:57] Eickmeyer: ps, have you looked at your ISO lately? you might be missing xdg user folders due to plasma 5.25 using systemd to start up and not running the script to add download/documents/music folders for a user [18:57] your iso is big so I don't have it [18:57] RikMills: I'll have to look at that. Just got an email on a failure to build. Our ISO is yuge. [18:58] Yeah, I don't have fibre yet so grabbing it is not quick [18:58] hopefully will have gigabit fibre soon though :) [18:59] I don't have fiber either, and just zsync everything with my 300Mbps connection. :) [18:59] Eickmeyer: I am still at 17Mbps ADSL :( [19:00] Ouch, I feel your pain. [19:00] It can stream HD so it is not so bad, but other things are a pain [19:01] So, RE: xdg user folders... shouldn't adduser just take care of that? It did in the past. [19:03] Eickmeyer: nope, it is actually a /etc/xdg/autostart entry that does in when a user 1st logs in [19:05] https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?mode=filename&suite=kinetic§ion=all&arch=any&keywords=xdg-user-dirs-update&searchon=contents [19:05] which an issue with systemd upstream means is getting ignored on plasma 5.25 [19:06] https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=433538 [19:06] KDE bug 433538 in plasmashell "systemdBoot: autostart items not launched (xdg-user-dirs)" [Normal, Resolved: Upstream] [19:06] hence: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kubuntu-settings/1:22.10.4 [19:07] adding an entry that it does not ignore [19:07] thank you systemd AGAIN!!!! [19:10] * OvenWerks suspects a lot of problems are lack of documentation [19:20] I agree with OvenWerks. [19:22] perhaps. I am not a dedicated systemd hater so can be persuaded to give the benefit of the doubt [19:29] RikMills: in particular there are a number of standard services that no one seems to use. I fact gnome basically redesigns a number of services rather than using what is already there. Documenting the standard services and how they should be used would be helpful. Like DE's should use this service to start up and this one to stop. I don't think I have found any DE that uses [19:29] "Eickmeyer: I am still at..." <- I get 4 Mbps on my cellular a lot of times, 12 Mbps rarely [19:29] user/systemd-exit.service for logout. [19:32] they connected the fibre street terminal on Friday, so should get offered an install date soon. then will have 920 Mbps up and down :D
