=== Guest4467 is now known as geri
tomreynLithium64: The Linux kernel is reporting that it is trying and failing to access, read and interpret the BIOS provided "CPC" ACPI table. ACPI tables are a way for the operating system to exchange data such as hardware platform specific details and state information with the firmware/BIOS. CPC is the table containing information on Collaborative Processor Performance Control (CPPC). Which, if the data is available, can also be queried while15:12
tomreynUbuntu is running: https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/v5.2/admin-guide/acpi/cppc_sysfs.html15:12

Lithium64tomreyn, thanks, so I shouldn't worry about this error?15:15
tomreynQuerying this information fails on your system, which probably just means that your UEFI firmware does not provide it. It's probably not required for stable operation. Some functionality, such as system load based CPU frequency adaptation, or suspend + resume, may not work or not work reliably. It's possible that a newer version of the UEFI 'BIOS' available for your hardware provides a CDC table.15:17

oerhekshave fun clarkk15:58
oerheksdocker image is a minimal setup, hence it is not installed.15:59
oerheksyou should have mentioned that detail15:59
Guest18is it enabled by default on regular versions and is `/etc/bash_completion.d/` present when you install the package on regular version, because as i mentioned i got this message after installing `bash-completion` package "find: '/etc/bash_completion.d/': No such file or directory".16:01
oerheksone reason it crashes is an unexpected newline https://stackoverflow.com/questions/53407201/bash-compl-and-bash-completion-no-such-file-or-directory16:02
Guest18oerheks, it is a stock ubuntu container i doubt there are some errors in those files. i tried running `bash -n <file>` for those mentioned in the article, but i didn't get any errors. also the problem is not that i get this error on each new shell session, it is shown after installing bash completion `apt-get -yq install bash-completion`.16:08
oerheksGuest18, then i have no clue there, try the docker channel?16:10

Guess I'll need to acquire yet another server MB for redundancy so I could19:27
nonix4actually do that bios upgrade without unnecessary risks.19:28
tomreynno dual-bios yet?19:29
tim1Hello19:33
nonix4tomreyn: well, bios was upgraded in the past to support the cpu used, which original bios version didn't support at all. And the bios upgrade tools might refuse to boot from nvme, so might need to find some older media for the bios update, unless it supports tftp ramdisks / etc? "CrashFree BIOS 3" docs only refer to older media types like dvd and usb.19:43

=== meow is now known as jess
tomreynunfortunately, much documentation on wiki.ubuntu.com is old. this doesn't mean it is necessarily no longer applicable. but sometimes mechanics have changed since.20:08
tomreynespecially for Xorg, I don't expect much change, though.20:08
tomreynyou probably won't find much documentation on (X)Wayland there, however. Maybe some on help.ubuntu.com or community.ubuntu.com20:09
goddardbest place I always find answers is #linux or askUbuntu or ArchWiki surprisingly :D20:10
nonix4I guess ubuntu-bug may need some extra features to properly support wayland... at least it tags those wayland-session. Bug SourcePackage xorg might be a bit off.20:13
tomreynhmm, maybe libwayland-server0 would have been more appropriate then20:18

tomreynhi anthony120:38
anthony1This is my firts time in irc channel20:38
anthony1One question how do I get out to go to another server20:39
tomreynwelcome then! this one is specifically about ubuntu support Q&A, but there are others, in case that's not what you are looking for.20:39
anthony1One more question, how do I see the available channels?20:39
oerheks /quit will do20:39
leftyfb!alis | anthony120:40
ubottuanthony1: Alis is an IRC service to help you find channels. For help on using it, see «/msg Alis help list» or ask in #libera - Example usage: «/msg Alis list http»20:40
tomreynanthony1: do you know which IRC application you are using? or are you on a website?20:40

tomreynso ask alis about weechat, chances are there is a separate channel for it, and they can help with your first steps20:41
tomreyni.e.:    /msg Alis list weechat20:42

jhutchinsgoddard: I'm really surprised you're not running gentoo.20:53

nonix4tomreyn: actually looking at the source code having no less than 5 TODOs of varying severity in that particular function (for HEAD of mainline), just a kernel bug report could be closer match; unlikely to actually depend on whether x.org or wayland is used.20:58

rinzewindHi. I've just updated from Ubuntu 18.04 -> 20.04 -> 22.04 and everything went well, but there're two things that are driving a bit crazy. I'm using XFCE. 1) The network indicator menu blinks when I click on it, which makes it entirely unusable. If I disable the wifi, it stays quite. 2) When using the Spanish keyboard layout, I can see the accent (') being written before I type the vowel, which looks21:45
rinzewindquite ugly. I don't know if this behavior can be changed somewhere.21:46
rinzewindThe accent issue happens only on the XFCE terminal, not on Firefox, rxvt or xterm, that I've tested. But I'm not able to find the setting that controls that.21:46
tomreynrinzewind: in case you can't seem to get a response to this here, try in #xubuntu, too (and read the /topic there for other option to get help).21:50
rinzewindtomreyn: I'll try there, thanks21:52
murmeltomreyn: posted bug, let's see :). the only confusing part to me was on launchpad you can only find linux-meta, but when using ubuntu-bug, you need to post it against linux :(21:54
tomreynmurmel: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/21:58
murmeltomreyn: when I was searching for it, it only gave me linux-meta22:00

gloinUsuing 20.04.4 here, how do I get Evolution to not show any dark backgrounds? I've got Gnome set to a light theme (have tried several) but still the message list, message headers, and border around the message is using dark mode. Here's what I mean: https://i.imgur.com/xJuR5wI.png22:43
gloinit really seems like evolution is not respecting themeing at all, even with gnome-tweaks23:24
sarnoldgloin: theming is surprisingly contentious.. https://stopthemingmy.app/23:28
sarnoldgloin: I don't know how much of what you're seeing is intentional vs unintentinoal23:28
gloinBe nice if Evolution supported its own theming, but the way this looks right now is just plain fugly23:28
gloinsarnold: did you see my screenshot above?23:29
sarnoldgloin: yeah, it looked pretty fugly :)23:29
Unit193I usually have better luck, looks wise, if I avoid GNOME stuff and use MATE applications or such.23:30
murmelgloin: I use evolution from flatpak and it themes perfectly fine with yaru-dark23:31
gloinmurmel: I prefer a light theme, it looks like the dark theme elements are stuck here23:31
gloinFrom curiosity what version of evolution did you get from flatpack?23:32
gloinI have 3.36.5-0ubuntu123:32

murmel3.36.5 is 20.04 or?23:33

jhutchinsmurmel: Wait, you're having problems because a flatpack is ignoring system settings?23:35
gloinno, I'm having a problem because the apt version is23:35

gloinjhutchins: I've got a light theme selected for gnome, so this should not be happening https://i.imgur.com/xJuR5wI.png23:36
murmelgloin: which theme is it?23:36
gloinmurmel: honestly it just says "light"23:36
gloinversus standard or dark23:36
murmelgloin: did you try to reset your evolution settings (moving the directory)23:37
gloinmurmel: yeah23:38
murmelalso new user?23:38
gloinYeah, I went through the dot dirs pretty thoroughly, ended up with a default Gnome desktop as a result23:38
murmelhm, it feels like almost as if the theme is not installed, which can't be true as we are still talking about yaru23:39
gloinYeah, this is a shiny new 20.04 system here23:40
gloinWhy isn't there a user-configurable option in Evolution's settings?23:40
murmelthat was never the case23:41
murmeleven other de don't have that 'feature\23:41
gloinMost apps have their own light/dark mode toggles.23:42
gloinAt least independent ones23:42
murmelhm, seems like I live too much in the gnome world then :/23:42
murmelthe only thing I can think of, if you switch back to dark and then light again, so it gets reapplied :/ but other than that23:43
gloinUnfortunately, tried that without success. Trying the flatpak install now23:43
murmelgloin: and I will just install an ubuntu 20.04 server + desktop to verify23:45

JuriloHello. I'm trying to install Ubuntu. I have multiple disks in my computer and installator asks me with 'Windows Boot Manager' - install alongside or erase or something else. I'd like to choose automatic partitioning for my other disk, how can I do this?23:54
goddardwhelp23:54
goddardi think i figured out why some of the glitchyness happened23:55
goddardburn my windows extension for some reason caused a lot of problems23:55
goddardstill seems like some things respond strangely though23:55
tomreynJurilo: you can only choose between automated partitoning for all (target disk), or none, i.e. manual partitioning for all.23:56
Jurilotomreyn: how can I change target disk?23:57
goddardalso disabled animations23:57
goddarddidn't some one say that jokingly?23:57
Jurilotomreyn: after the 'Keyboard layout' step I don't see such possibility23:57
tomreynJurilo: hmm, maybe you can't even choose that during automated partitioning.23:57
JuriloWell, that's odd :)23:58
tomreynJurilo: it's been a while that i installe don a desktop with more tha one disk. you can definitely choose with manual partitioning.23:58
tomreynJurilo: which ubuntu version are you about to install there?23:58
Jurilowell, but you know, I need to think how to partition my disk and I don't want to23:59
murmelit was also an option on 20.04 to select which disk to choose (automatic partitioning)23:59
Jurilotomreyn: 22.04 LTS23:59
