[12:17] ping mirrors.ubuntu.com -> PING mirrors.ubuntu.com (91.189.89.32) 56(84) bytes of data. -> From bond0.erlking.canonical.com (91.189.88.171) icmp_seq=3 Destination Host Unreachable [12:18] Is the above a known problem? We are seeing issues connecting to mirrors.ubuntu.com. Sorry if it has already been mentioned in the channel, but the topic said "Known issues: -". [12:21] dandersson: the server's being physically moved, sorry - I'll update topic === barryprice changed the topic of #ubuntu-mirrors to: For help, please use RT || Known issues: server moves in progress: mirrors.u.c and others || Documentation: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Mirrors || Although we idle here, please mail requests to RT: mirrors@ubuntu.com [12:23] would it make sense to track the state of the mirrors.ubuntu.com (just this one) on https://status.canonical.com/ ? [12:26] I'm not sure offhand what the criteria would be for inclusion, a mirrors.u.c outage should be fairly low impact? [12:27] Any approximate time when it is expected to be finished? (Order of magnitude is fine -- minutes, hours, days, weeks, ...) [12:27] couple of hours if all goes well [12:30] Great, thanks! [12:34] mirrors.u.c is probably worth including on status.c.c since it's somewhat user-visible - I'm not sure how widespread client configurations are that use that directly, but some definitely exist [12:34] I noticed it since we have a certain scheduled installation test that uses mirrors.ubuntu.com to select a fast and working Ubuntu mirror. I guess our intention was to not rely on a certain mirror always being up, but instead have a working one chosen, but if the mirror list itself is expected to have lower availability perhaps everyone is better off if we hard-code a mirror instead. [12:35] mirrors.u.c being moved today is a fairly unusual event [12:35] We don't shut down datacentres all *that* often :-) [12:36] And in normal circumstances it's a very simple service to keep running, basically just an Apache and a few scripts to update the lists [12:36] Yeah, we have had this test running for close to four years, and I remember only one major issue with it before, so it is not something that has been a problem :-) === barryprice changed the topic of #ubuntu-mirrors to: For help, please use RT || Known issues: server moves in progress: - || Documentation: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Mirrors || Although we idle here, please mail requests to RT: mirrors@ubuntu.com [15:16] dandersson: http://mirrors.ubuntu.com/mirrors.txt === barryprice changed the topic of #ubuntu-mirrors to: For help, please use RT || Known issues: - || Documentation: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Mirrors || Although we idle here, please mail requests to RT: mirrors@ubuntu.com [15:37] barryprice: Noted, thanks again!
