RikMills | mmikowski: not sure I want to change the wallpaper in backports. regular users expect top get the new plasma wallpaper | 09:23 |
---|---|---|
RikMills | however, if you want to ship a modified settings package for focus, you can do that | 09:23 |
RikMills | you would also have to find a way of modifying the ubiquity-dm wallpaper path on your ISO | 09:25 |
RikMills | maybe sed foo in capser bottom | 09:27 |
RikMills | *casper | 09:27 |
RikMills | mmikowski: I also wasn't aware that you had the backports PPA enabled by default on focus | 10:36 |
BluesKaj | Hi all | 12:14 |
RikMills | launchpad git looks broken | 13:18 |
Eickmeyer | Fixing the wallpaper in ubiquity is a one-line change, but that's not nearly as important as the theme, which is also a one-line change we can fix on the Focus side. | 15:56 |
RikMills | indeed. :D | 16:02 |
Eickmeyer | Also, the plasma crash is a known bug which has been already reported mmikowski | 16:02 |
RikMills | Eickmeyer: you do nothing with latte-dock in focus, correct? | 16:04 |
Eickmeyer | RikMills: Correct. | 16:04 |
RikMills | ok, 5.25 breaking it is less of an issue then, though it still needs sorting | 16:05 |
Eickmeyer | Right, but mmikowski's issue is this is going out to people who are expecting a certain level of service and professional experience, so as you can imagine he's a little trepidatious. | 16:09 |
Eickmeyer | But yeah, latte-dock is a non-issue for sure. | 16:10 |
RikMills | Eickmeyer: then might have been good if I had known before a few days ago that focus used the backports ppa ;) | 16:11 |
Eickmeyer | RikMills: I agree, there was a large communication lapes over the last few years. | 16:11 |
Eickmeyer | *lapse | 16:11 |
RikMills | lets keep it good going forward then :D | 16:12 |
Eickmeyer | Yep. That was the intention of getting mmikowski in this room and part of my quassel instance/persistence. | 16:12 |
RikMills | I am wondering if you would be better served with a separate PPA that backports deemed to be tested enough for you get copied to | 16:14 |
Eickmeyer | That's a question and discussion we'd need to have with mmikowski. | 16:15 |
RikMills | not that I would not hold back releases like the current one. I was not keen to push it before you all piped up | 16:16 |
RikMills | but maybe you would wait a point bugfix release or 2 later than I would | 16:16 |
Eickmeyer | Yeah, 5.25.0 seems to be a little messy, tbh. | 16:17 |
mamarley | Isn't 5.25.1 supposed to come out today or tomorrow or something? | 16:23 |
Eickmeyer | Tomorrow, iirc | 16:23 |
RikMills | yep | 16:24 |
RikMills | I will build and put it in backports-landing ppa for jammy | 16:24 |
RikMills | there is a loooooooooooooooooooooooooong list of bugfixes | 16:25 |
mamarley | And I assume in the normal places for kinetic too? :) | 16:25 |
RikMills | mamarley: in the normal staging ppa as these tars will not be embargoed | 16:26 |
mamarley | Thanks! | 16:26 |
RikMills | plus uploaded to kinetic as soon as I know they build ok | 16:26 |
mmikowski | RikMills: No worries about the wallpaper changing, just this one is so busy it causes problems with widgets. Hopefully they'll pick something different for 5.25.1. The big issues IMO are as summarized: All Vertical panel layouts appear broken; plasma constantly crashes on theme where layout change is selected; widgets appear to move themselves on sign-in. The first two are completely reproducable; the last we have yet to | 20:18 |
mmikowski | isolate. | 20:18 |
mmikowski | RikMills: We should like to help ensure backports is well tested for everyone and would rather help squash bugs upstream than have them provide a bad UX and drive users away from the platform. There may still be a good reason to have a separate backports-kfocus repo, but hopefully the value of intense testing across many devices would make that well worth it. Of course, if it isn't needed, then all the better. | 23:42 |
mmikowski | +cc Eickmeyer | 23:42 |
