dominikhello everyone :)00:28
dreamonhaving a thinkpad. send it with 80% into sleep mode. remove power over night (0:00) at morning (8:00) only 72% left. I think its to much consumption for 8hours of sleep. acck is 100% ok.09:21
diogenes_Vx15__dreamon: that's nothing, if i shutdown my PC completely with 100% then on the next morning i get 70%10:39
diogenes_Vx15__what's your CPU?10:39
=== diogenes_Vx15__ is now known as diogenes_Vx15
dreamondiogenes_, strange I had 2 notebooks before, without this behavior. CPU: quad core Intel Core i7-10510U (-MT MCP-)12:40
diogenes_Vx15dreamon: my theory is that it is a "feature" introduced with the relatively newer intel processors (>2012) which have the infamouse Intel Management Engine which is an autonomous subsystem running on your board even when the PC is completely shutdown and even unplugged from the power socket, it's basically a version of the Minix OS running on your board independently of the rest of the system.12:46
diogenes_Vx15so there's little you can do about it, other that using system76 which cblaims to ship their machines with IME disabled.12:47
diogenes_Vx15claims*12:48
dreamonthis sound evolution in wrong direction. Is this a only Linux behavior, or on Windows, too?12:54
diogenes_Vx15IME runs indenendent from the main OS 12:55
dreamonmaybe I can disable in Bios?12:56
diogenes_Vx15dreamon: nope you cannot13:02
diogenes_Vx15it can  talk over the network even if your PC is turned off completely, that's a scary thing13:03
dreamonwhats going on here. really scary. I though its my device. thank you I didn't know that13:09
tomreynthere's me_cleaner for disabling it in any bios, or, if it fails, ending up with a bricked computer which needs to have its bios rewritten.13:31
tomreynhttps://github.com/corna/me_cleaner13:32
dreamonIt sound like this works only on notebooks? Or is power supply running during pc is shutdown, to support this IME thing? 13:41
tomreynthe PSU is always active unless you flip the switch / disconnect it. this is not just about laptops.13:45
dreamontomreyn, I not sure of this. there is only a standby +5Vstby so if you press, it boots up pc. I will test this with a power measure device.13:47
tomreynit won't draw much power, it's integrated in the cpu. so just powering the mainboard 'somewhat' (as you would to be able to use the power button) is sufficient.14:03
tomreynwell, ME management is part of the PCH14:05
