BluesKajHi all13:14
Guest5351I'm trying to install Kubuntu on a laptop in legacy BIOS mode from it's hard drive using UnetBootin's frugal install, due to lacking a USB stick or a CD. I open the installer, Ubiquity, and everything goes normally up until the Disk Setup step. Upon trying to enter it, I get an error mesage saying that ubi-partman crashed with exit code 141, upon13:21
Guest5351checking /var/log/syslog it says that partman couldn't find any "matching physical volumes". I've searched across the web but I didn't find any solutions to this, I already have RST disabled and plenty of unallocated space on the drive, plus 3 NTFS partitions used by Windows, one of which is the one from where Kubuntu live is running. I'm looking13:21
Guest5351for possible solutions, or alternatively a manual method to install Kubuntu without using Ubiquity.13:21
cbreakGuest5351: can you select manual partitioning? or does it fail before that?13:27
cbreakI recently installed 22.04 bypassing the GUI installer, via debootstrap13:28
cbreakI mostly followed this guide: https://openzfs.github.io/openzfs-docs/Getting%20Started/Ubuntu/Ubuntu%2022.04%20Root%20on%20ZFS.html13:28
cbreakbut it is for installing zfs boot, which you likely don't want13:28
cbreak(also, the dataset layout in that document is weird, so I wouldn't recommend following that one even if you want zfs)13:29
cbreakthe debootstrap part might help you, at least as a basis to search for more instructions13:29
cbreakthe general idea is: set up some partition for ubuntu, mount it somewhere, use debootstrap to put stuff there, chroot into it, install more stuff, fix configs, ... set up bootloader, reboot13:30

alkisgGama1iel, are you trying to boot a live usb stick? Which method did you use to create it?14:51
IrcsomeBot<Gama1iel> Flash in rufus (re @IrcsomeBot: <alkisg> Gama1iel, are you trying to boot a live usb stick? Which method did you use to create it?)15:30
alkisgTry with another tool, it probably did something wrong15:37
tomreynsteps 1 to 4 should be equivalent for kubuntu (as long as you use the proper .iso) https://ubuntu.com/tutorials/install-ubuntu-desktop#1-overview15:40
IrcsomeBot<milesdredd> i cant able to open a snap app , when i click ntg happn 😥15:40
tomreynrun it froma terminal / konsole, see what is being reported there15:41
IrcsomeBot<milesdredd> yea already done , but nothing comming (re @IrcsomeBot: <tomreyn> run it froma terminal / konsole, see what is being reported there)15:41
tomreynit's usually because either the snap itself or snapd is broken and needs a manual    sudo snap refresh ...15:42
tomreynand sometimes the snap is generally broken15:42
IrcsomeBot<milesdredd> still same (re @IrcsomeBot: <tomreyn> it's usually because either the snap itself or snapd is broken and needs a manual    sudo snap refresh ...)15:43
IrcsomeBot<milesdredd> commands :15:43
IrcsomeBot<milesdredd> milesdredd@milesdredd-k-notebook:~$ tradingview15:43
IrcsomeBot<milesdredd> milesdredd@milesdredd-k-notebook:~$ sudo snap refresh15:43
IrcsomeBot<milesdredd> All snaps up to date.15:44
IrcsomeBot<milesdredd> milesdredd@milesdredd-k-notebook:~$ tradingview15:44
tomreynsudo snap refresh tradingview15:44
IrcsomeBot<milesdredd> ~$ sudo snap refresh tradingview15:44
IrcsomeBot<milesdredd> snap "tradingview" has no updates available15:44
IrcsomeBot<milesdredd> still same15:44
tomreynhmm i think there's a force command or something15:45

user|69i have 2 sata drives18:34
user|69both are 1 tb18:34
diogenes_Vx15download https://www.balena.io/etcher/18:35
diogenes_Vx15install etcher and once the Kubuntu iso is done downloading then write it to the USB drive with Etcher18:36
diogenes_Vx15after that you restart the PC and go to the boot menu (pressing either f12 or f9 or f2)18:37
user|69ok im downloading now18:37
user|69k18:37
diogenes_Vx15and choose to boot from the USB drive, once it boots, check out if everything works, first see if the wifi works, then sound, videocam, microphone and so on, if everything works fine then go ahead with the installation but, you need to decide for yourself whether you want to erase windows completely and install Kubuntu only or you want to have both of the systems.18:39
user|69ok\18:40
cbreakuser|69: I recommend unplugging / disconnecting the windows drive, if possible, before installing ubuntu18:55
cbreakthat way you're keeping them fully separate18:55
cbreakunfortunately, the ubuntu installer is known to not honor efi target partitions18:56
user|69ok ty19:07
