modbol[m] | I just updated from Ubuntu Studio 21.10 to 20.04. It mostly works, but I get no indication of wireless. The panel widget for networking shows only wired network (which works). I appear to have the drivers in /lib/firmware. I tried a fresh download of the driver to no effect. | 01:20 |

modbol[m] | Ooops. Update from 21.20 to 22.04 Jammy Jellyfish. | 01:23 |

ubottu | modbol: #ubuntustudio sometimes cannot answer your questions in a timely matter, or simply lacks the capacity. For additional sources of help, try #ubuntu if your issue is of a technical nature, or #lau (Linux Audio Users) or #opensourcemusicians if it has to do with the audio stack. | 01:24 |
Eickmeyer[m] | In this case, #ubuntu:libera.chat | 01:24 |
modbol[m] | Thanks. I suspect that KDE is relevant to the problem, so perhaps there is a kubuntu specialized channel? | 01:25 |
Eickmeyer[m] | #kubuntu:libera.chat | 01:25 |
Eickmeyer[m] | But, it is most likely not KDE related. | 01:25 |
Eickmeyer[m] | Especially if you can't see your wireless adapter. | 01:26 |
Eickmeyer[m] | Mostly likely it's a driver issue. | 01:26 |
Eickmeyer[m] | You might be able to check the driver manager by going into system settings. | 01:26 |
Eickmeyer[m] | That should automatically find the right driver for your system. | 01:26 |
Eickmeyer[m] | Beyond that, #ubuntu:libera.chat supports all official flavors of Ubuntu equally. | 01:27 |
modbol[m] | Thanks. I have not been finding stuff in Systems Settings. Hardware -> Driver Manager takes me to the Software Sources, which tells me that I have no proprietary drivers "in use." There are a bunch of them in /lib/firmware with .ucode extensions. | 01:30 |
Eickmeyer[m] | You shouldn't have to worry about /lib/firmware, that means nothing. | 01:30 |
Eickmeyer[m] | Does it show you any drivers available to use, meaning does it give you any radio buttons? | 01:31 |
Eickmeyer[m] | /lib/firmware != drivers | 01:31 |
modbol[m] | Software Sources -> Additional Drivers shows the message "No additional drivers available." Two greyed out inactive buttons for "Apply Changes" and "Revert", and an active button for "Close." | 01:32 |
Eickmeyer[m] | Ok, thanks. Then your best bet is to ask for help in #ubuntu:libera.chat since there are more people there with in-depth knowledge of the networking stack than you will ever find in here, and I'm the only one active here at the moment. To get there, simply click on this: #ubuntu:libera.chat | 01:34 |
modbol[m] | I'll try that. I am also hunting on Framework forums. Someone posted detailed instructions for downloading an Intel driver to /lib/firmware, but that is maybe not right. | 01:35 |
Eickmeyer[m] | Yeah, that's not going to do you any good. Not all Linux's are created equal. Sometimes the solution is easier than that. | 01:36 |
Eickmeyer[m] | modbol: Don't forget to be patient and wait. You got lucky that I happened to be around, but sometimes you might have to wait quite some time for an answer. :) | 01:38 |
oerheks | intel is supported in the kernel, for years now. | 01:39 |
modbol[m] | Thanks guys. I found the command "lspci" and it shows an Intel Wi-Fi network controller. I was pretty sure that all controllers were around, and I don't remember an issue from the previous 2.10. That's why I thought it might be a problem with the KDE Plasma widget. I'm heading over to the more general forum. | 01:41 |
Eickmeyer[m] | modbol: If that's the case, try typing alt-space followed by "plasmashell --replace" and see if that kicks the widget into gear. It might just be stuck for whatever reason. Also, bear in mind, it won't show wireless networks if you have wired plugged in. | 01:44 |
