lunahow to tell apt in ubuntu to not upgrade a package?09:54
lunaoh well too lazy to fight with that now, atleast Spotify still works on FreeBSD thats what i use the compat layer/jail for10:17
P-NuTHey there guys!13:08
P-NuTI have a ubuntu router with 2 nics that I have enabled ip forwarding on with:   echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward.13:08
P-NuTBut when I change it to a 0 to STOP ip forwarding, i can still send packets through it. 13:09
P-NuTIt's like the 0 makes no difference. 13:09
P-NuTAhh, hang on. Disregard. It's virtualbox's NAT networking..13:32
fooDoes anyone have a favorite service that does something like pingdom?14:41
fooNeed to check HTTP status14:41
shubjerofoo: uptime robot?14:47
RoyKfoo: I just use zabbix14:51
fooshubjero / RoyK -thank you!14:52
shubjeroRoyK: we use zabbix too but we use uptime robot as like a 3rd party sanity check14:52
shubjeroif zabbix goes down things get pretty quiet so its nice to have a backup check :)14:53
shubjeroor maybe your zabbix server can reach whats being monitored but other stuff on the internet (like uptime robot) provide another look in terms of global reachability14:53
RoyKshubjero: look into web scenarios in zabbix - it's been there for some years14:57
RoyKthat goes to foo as well :)14:58
shubjeroroyk: yeah we have hundreds14:58
RoyKshubjero: ok - large setup? ;);2~14:58
shubjerobut hte problem still exists as zabbix as a single point of failure and or a global reachability problem compared to your zabbix's viewpoint14:58
RoyKshubjero: ok - large setup? ;)14:58
RoyKshubjero: that's a valid point14:58
shubjerothe uptime robot is just complimentary for some edge cases14:58
shubjerobut i love zabbix14:59
RoyKpersonally, I don't particularly love zabbix - some stuff is just too much hassle, but again, I don't know any good alternatives ;)14:59
shubjeroyeah, steep learning curve and some things are cumbersome but ive literally never had zabbix server crash in 6 years of using it.. and the answer to "can zabbix monitor this?" is always yes15:01
RoyKshubjero: I started out using netsaint some >20 years back, then nagios, mrtg, munin, icinga, xymon/hobbit, and then zabbix and I think it works rather well now15:01
shubjeroand free15:01
shubjeroand you can pull pretty much everything from zabbix in to grafana for other parts of your team to consume without overwhelming them with zabbix's poor UI15:02
RoyKI know - we use both15:02
ahasenackcoreycb: hi, are we still in trouble regarding openstack and the new django in kinetic? Do you know if there is work in progress upstream to support this new django?15:07
coreycbahasenack: I think we are good. I've been submitting patches upstream this week.15:22
coreycbstill some more work todo but getting there.15:22
ahasenacknice15:22
tomreynfoo: also prometheus + grafana15:23
tomreynfoo: for more SaaS / remote monitoring services: freshping, statuscake15:26
footomreyn: thank you! Looking for something I can get set up quickly in the short-term, will move to something more involved later16:49
tomreynfoo: freshping does 50 checks against not just http at 1 minute intervals from 10 locations for free - it won't get better for free.16:54
footomreyn: thakn you!18:49
footomreyn: just signed up, thank you. This will do until I script something myself and stick it on a few different systems.20:46
tomreynfoo: glad i could help.21:19
