[20:37] <daftykins> although today i discovered that this shipped system from the provider is an intel 8th gen i7 PC which they'd set to the 'high performance' power profile, i.e. it'll just suck power to sit there idle - total waste

[20:38] <penguin42> does it actually do that when it's really idle - I thought that was more about how it ramped up when it wasn't quite idle?
[20:39] <daftykins> certainly does, task manager on Windows 10 can even show you it sitting there @ max turbo, static
[20:40] <zxmpi> could it be the software sucks and when it has a database a few years old it will need all that cpu to crawl along?
[20:40] <daftykins> well the supplied system purely handles images from this new 3D x-ray and scanning machine, the practice server is a separate PC
[20:41] <daftykins> so until September it'll certainly be doing next to nothing
[20:41] <daftykins> given they had us do a bit of a dance in meeting system specs for the PC inside the surgery, it horrifies me that they insist a dedicated one must be used
[20:42] <daftykins> it has an nvidia GTX 1650 in it, too... the guy told me he encountered a client who removed the graphics card once and wondered why stuff stopped working, hah
