ubottuEnd-Of-Life is when security updates and support for an Ubuntu release stop. Make sure to update Ubuntu before it goes EOL so you get updates promptly for newly-discovered security vulnerabilities. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EOL and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases for more info. Looking to upgrade from an EOL release? See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EOLUpgrades19:43
IrcsomeBot<Huck_20> Hey guys. I am running Ubuntu server and want to move it to a different location other than my house. Will it automatically connect to internet when Ethernet it plugged in or will i need to manually configure it?20:53
mmikowski@Huck_20, depends on how your IP is set up.20:54
IrcsomeBot<Huck_20> I dont know very much about networking so when i installed the ubuntu server it recognized my connect during setup and i didnt have to do any networking so im guessing my ip is set to what ever the default set up was during installation (re @IrcsomeBot: <mmikowski> @Huck_20, depends on how your IP is set up.)20:56
mmikowskiIf your server is using DHCP and then your router is reserving your IP address, then the answer is Yes with the caveat that the IP will change when you move the server. You would need to assign the same IP using the DHCP router at the other site to keep the same IP.20:56
mmikowskiProbably DHCP which normally assigns a "random" IP address to a device. However, if the router reserves an IP for a device, this results in the IP always being the same.20:57
mmikowskiThe constant IP address is what makes the server usable reliably between reboots so you can do things like use NFS or SAMBA, etc.20:59
IrcsomeBot<Huck_20> okay. I think i understand. thank you21:02
mmikowskiYou're welcome. Good luck!21:02
IrcsomeBot<Huck_20> is there a very good place that I can go like youtube were they can dumb networking down for me so i can learn how to do it from the command line. I am use to doing it from a gui21:03
mmikowskiI'd look at ubuntu docs. Also nmcli.  Search for ubuntu server remote network management or similar.21:05
IrcsomeBot<Huck_20> okay thanks again!! (re @IrcsomeBot: <mmikowski> I'd look at ubuntu docs. Also nmcli.  Search for ubuntu server remote network management or similar.)21:06
mmikowskiAgain, good luck.21:11
