lotuspsychjeleftyfb: when clicking on an ubuntu channel from community support/discourse the irc: link gives a window to pick between mibbit ir system handler (in my case hexchat) do you know if thunderbird is on system handler by default?16:29
leftyfbno clue16:30
lotuspsychjewould be cool if a user clicked on a channel and thunderbird jumps open on a vanilla ubuntu16:31
leftyfbexactly16:33
lotuspsychjethunderbird settings doesnt show any make this to default irc16:42
lotuspsychjeand FF shows irc handler to 'always ask' (system handler vs mibbit)16:44
FallenI'm not sure if someone else did this more recently, but what feels like about 10 years ago I had tried to add support for Thunderbird to take operating system default handlers and it was quite a mess, to the point where I gave up. There had been no distro independent way to do this.17:29
leftyfbit works fine for email links17:30

lotuspsychjelemme try a vm on jammy17:34
lotuspsychjeno dice18:00
lotuspsychjeno application found when i yelp==>community support==>irc channels==> click #ubuntu ==> system handler==> no application found18:01
lotuspsychjetoo bad18:07
lotuspsychjeand FF doesnt seem to like mibbit neither18:14
lotuspsychjegives the continue at your own risk window18:14
leftyfbI asked about making hexchat(I think it was xchat at the time) a default installed application on ubuntu. It was turned down18:17
lotuspsychjeleftyfb: xchat was default on an early version of ubuntu once18:19
lotuspsychjetill ubuntu 5.1018:20
leftyfbah, I didn't start until 7.0418:20
lotuspsychjedont think ive ever tested that neither18:21
lotuspsychjeso i could file a thunderbird wishlist, but prob not much change they will add system handler by default?18:21
leftyfbseems silly they would bother integrating an IRC client but not giving it a handler18:22
leftyfbto be honest, I'd be afraid they would just as soon remove the IRC part18:22
lotuspsychjeyou think i should file it?18:22
lotuspsychjeits actualy a pretty decent chat18:22
leftyfbI used it once when it was first added just to see. I don't remember it at al18:23
leftyfbI'm very set in my ways with applications :)18:23
lotuspsychjesame here18:23
lotuspsychjebut this is for luring our users :p18:23
leftyfbwhich is funny because I use thunderbird extensively. I've got 7 email accounts and 4 calendars added to it18:24
lotuspsychjethe email client is real decent too yeah18:24
lotuspsychjei even got win customers running it18:24
leftyfbbefore thunderbird, I used Eudora :)18:24
lotuspsychjenot familiar18:25
lotuspsychjeoh well, im gonna file the wishlist anyway, would could go wrong eh18:25
leftyfbthey could remove the irc client completely because it's easier than dealing with it :)18:26
lotuspsychjeloll18:26
leftyfbit's funny, typing Eudora into google, the first relevant link is to computerhistory.org. That should tell you something18:26
lotuspsychjehttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/198314418:30
