[16:29] leftyfb: when clicking on an ubuntu channel from community support/discourse the irc: link gives a window to pick between mibbit ir system handler (in my case hexchat) do you know if thunderbird is on system handler by default? [16:30] no clue [16:31] would be cool if a user clicked on a channel and thunderbird jumps open on a vanilla ubuntu [16:33] exactly [16:42] thunderbird settings doesnt show any make this to default irc [16:44] and FF shows irc handler to 'always ask' (system handler vs mibbit) [17:29] I'm not sure if someone else did this more recently, but what feels like about 10 years ago I had tried to add support for Thunderbird to take operating system default handlers and it was quite a mess, to the point where I gave up. There had been no distro independent way to do this. [17:30] it works fine for email links [17:30] "mailto:" [17:34] lemme try a vm on jammy [18:00] no dice [18:01] no application found when i yelp==>community support==>irc channels==> click #ubuntu ==> system handler==> no application found [18:07] too bad [18:14] and FF doesnt seem to like mibbit neither [18:14] gives the continue at your own risk window [18:17] I asked about making hexchat(I think it was xchat at the time) a default installed application on ubuntu. It was turned down [18:19] leftyfb: xchat was default on an early version of ubuntu once [18:20] till ubuntu 5.10 [18:20] ah, I didn't start until 7.04 [18:21] dont think ive ever tested that neither [18:21] so i could file a thunderbird wishlist, but prob not much change they will add system handler by default? [18:22] seems silly they would bother integrating an IRC client but not giving it a handler [18:22] to be honest, I'd be afraid they would just as soon remove the IRC part [18:22] you think i should file it? [18:22] its actualy a pretty decent chat [18:23] I used it once when it was first added just to see. I don't remember it at al [18:23] I'm very set in my ways with applications :) [18:23] same here [18:23] but this is for luring our users :p [18:24] which is funny because I use thunderbird extensively. I've got 7 email accounts and 4 calendars added to it [18:24] the email client is real decent too yeah [18:24] i even got win customers running it [18:24] before thunderbird, I used Eudora :) [18:25] not familiar [18:25] oh well, im gonna file the wishlist anyway, would could go wrong eh [18:26] they could remove the irc client completely because it's easier than dealing with it :) [18:26] loll [18:26] it's funny, typing Eudora into google, the first relevant link is to computerhistory.org. That should tell you something [18:30] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/1983144 [18:31] hggdh: can you convert to wishlist (again) please? : ) [18:40] lotuspsychje: done [18:41] tnx very much hggdh
