m_tadeuhi...does kubuntu have a laptop mode?11:42
IrcsomeBot<Oski146> I used the flatpak and the snap same issue (re @IrcsomeBot: <oerheks> why flatpak, noson is available as snap https://snapcraft.io/noson)12:17
IrcsomeBot<Oski146> I try now sonos in wine but ibdont think its Working12:18
mparillom_tadeu: There used to be a netbook configuration, mostly to save screen real estate, but that was a long time ago (Plasma 4?). Basically for other laptops functions like battery life, Kubuntu has nothing special. Upstream in KDE, you can see Power Management in System Settings and in the Kernel laptop-specific functions should be available automagically. Additionally, there are probably features like https://github.com/linrunner/TLP you can investigate.12:22
m_tadeumparillo: sorry I just re-read my question....I meant tablet mode12:24
mparilloI do not know. A quick search brought up: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1406793/virtual-keyboard-for-kubuntu-22-04-preferably-suporting-wayland and https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/sg7s0i/kde_on_tablet/12:27

IrcsomeBot<I_it_depends_I> arraybolt, I succeeded  in reinstalling Pop!_Os, can i send you the link for the dummy output?13:51
IrcsomeBot<I_it_depends_I> these (re @IrcsomeBot: <arraybolt3[m]> @I_it_depends_I: The dummy output problem might be solvable if it's just missing firmware, so maybe trying "lspci | nc termbin.com 9999" and sending me the URL will help. Also do "sudo dmesg | nc termbin.com 9999" and send that link too.)13:52

user|21im new to linux were should i go for help with my pc crashing while running games18:21
enigma9o7[m]best buy18:22
user|21im broke and they want money 😔18:23
arraybolt3[m]user|21: If you're using Kubuntu, this is the place.18:26
arraybolt3[m]If you're on a different Ubuntu flavour, #ubuntu may help, and if you're on a non-Ubuntu Linux distro, you should be able to find support options for your distro (or switch to Ubuntu depending on your preference).18:26
user|21im on Kubuntu but my pc wont run games without crashing18:27
enigma9o7[m]but it'll work fine as long as you dont play games?18:28
user|21i want to play games tho18:29
arraybolt3[m]user|21: What graphics hardware do you have?18:30
user|21i have an evga gtx 460 se and i havent been able o update my drivers i suppose that could be an issue18:30
arraybolt3[m]user|21: Open a terminal and run "sudo software-properties-kde", enter your password, then click the Drivers tab.18:36
user|21i see adittional drivers18:39
arraybolt3[m]OK, can you install any of them?18:39
user|21no18:40
tomreyn"The GeForce GTX 460 SE was a mid-range graphics card by NVIDIA, launched on November 15th, 2010." https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-gtx-460-se.c357 says 1 GB VRAM, GeForce 400 generation18:41
tomreynchances are this is a legacy one18:42
arraybolt3[m]Hmm, it may be too old and the driver now unsupported, in which case, you have three options: 1, install an older Kubuntu. 2, find a patched driver from a PPA (not safe). 3, get a new computer.18:42
user|21its not on its latest driver that they last put out tho which is 390.151 i think18:44
tomreynhttps://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/unix/legacy-gpu/ lists "GeForce GTX 460 SE"18:45
tomreynGPU name: GF104, Fermi architecture (says techpowerup)18:47
tomreynhttps://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3142 says "The Linux 390.* legacy driver series is the last to support GF1xx ("Fermi") GPUs. Support for new Linux kernels and X servers, as well as fixes for critical bugs, will be included in 390.* legacy releases through the end of 2022."18:47
IrcsomeBot<a_k_s_27> Hello everyone 👋18:49
tomreynhttps://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/unix/ states "Linux x86_64/AMD64/EM64T: Latest Legacy GPU version (390.xx series): 390.154"18:49

IrcsomeBot<a_k_s_27> I recently installed kubuntu 2218:49
IrcsomeBot<a_k_s_27> I was trying to install event calendar widget and got this error message18:50
user|21i have the 390.154 drive downloaded but not sure how to install it manually18:50
IrcsomeBot<a_k_s_27> https://irc-attachments.kde.org/4fbb212b/file_58555.jpg18:50
IrcsomeBot<a_k_s_27> What should I do to solve this bug (re @a_k_s_27: )18:51
tomreynuser|21: you should not install the one downloaded from nvidia.com. instead, use this one: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-390/390.154-0ubuntu0.22.04.118:51
arraybolt3[m]I've noticed that error quite a bit, and even got it myself. I think it's a regression in Kubuntu... and I just realized that could be a fatal flaw in developer land. Hold on, I need to test that.18:51
user|21thx ima install it18:52
tomreynuser|21: it should be available via apt in the restricted section now.18:53
user|21do i need to be in root18:53
tomreynuser|21: what do you mean?18:53
user|21sudo su18:53
tomreynuser|21: to do what?18:54
tomreynyou should normally work as a restricted user, not on a root shell18:54
user|21ok18:55
tomreynsometimes you will need to run commands with root access, but that'll depend on what you're trying to do.18:55
user|21sudo apt nvidia-graphics-drivers-390 (390.154-0ubuntu0.22.04.1) jammy; urgency=medium18:55

tomreynuser|21: this is not how you install software using apt. you're probably rather trying to do something along the lines of: sudo apt update && sudo apt install nvidia-graphics-drivers-39018:57
user|21oo18:57
IrcsomeBot<Omar> arraybolt318:58
tomreynuser|21: actually i guess it should be:  sudo apt update && sudo apt install nvidia-driver-39018:59

user|21i think its working19:00
user|21do u think that will solve my issues with my pc crashing while runing games19:01
tomreynmaybe. we haven't really tried to find out what driver you were previously using, or what the causes of these crashes is. your graphics card will continue to be too slow to run many current games, but hopefully it will work stable after you installed this driver and rebooted.19:02
user|21tbh its not slow bc on windows it was runing well over 100 fps19:04
user|21im gonna reboot now19:04
user|21im back19:12
user|21im gonna run a game19:14
mmikowskiuser|21: Fermi was very well supported by Nvidia back in the day, far better than AMD support which was nearly non-existant.19:15
mmikowskiSo you should see frame rates close to Windows. Depending on the API (OpenGL or Vulkan),  Proton vs. Native, and the game, it may even be better.19:17
user|21g mod is working19:17
user|21is there a way to OC my gpu and cpu with a program like msi afterburner or yk how pop os has a cpu OC program19:19

IrcsomeBot<Omar> What? (re @IrcsomeBot: <tomreyn> Omar: fg)20:20
tomreynthat's a internal shell command, you can type it on your shell20:21
tomreynit stands for "foreground". there is also "bg".20:21
tomreynsee also "process control" at e.g. https://ss64.com/bash/syntax-keyboard.html20:23
tomreynyour favourite shell's "man pages" will have a similar listing.20:24
IrcsomeBot<I_it_depends_I> arraybolt, if you are here and you want that, we can try to fix the audio problem20:55

DragnslcrUpgrading should work. It's best to wait until 22.04.1 is released, which I thought was supposed to be around now.22:10
