LcamHey Guys, was wondering if someone could help me. Just installed Ubuntu Studio 22.04 and tried setting up my audio interface using Studio Control. The version that came with the package (2.3.1) was hanging at "Adding Bridges", so I patched it up with the latest 2.3.5 and JACK seems to be running now15:38
LcamAs soon as I patch the inputs from my audio interface to the system playback so I could hear it them through my headphones, I get massive distortion15:39
Lcamit sounds like a mismatch in sample rate. I've tried changing the sample rates to no avail. Anyone with a similar issue?15:40
Eickmeyer[m]Lcam: You might consider adding the Ubuntu Studio Backports via "sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntustudio-ppa/backports" to get the latest Studio Controls with bugfixes, but that's not likely the culpret. Your buffer rate might be too low for your PC to handle. Use this article as a guide: https://wiki.linuxaudio.org/wiki/list_of_jack_frame_period_settings_ideal_for_usb_interface15:44
LcamThanks Eickmeyer, will do both. Should I be tackling the Sample rate and buffer size settings for the Jack Master device, or from the Input device (from extra devices) itself? 15:48
Eickmeyer[m]Lcam: Both.15:49
LcamIt's quite a common interface (focusrite scarlett 2i2) and it was working on the windows install, so Im pretty sure it's a silly setting I'm missing :)15:49
LcamI think I was working with 44.1 and 12815:49
Eickmeyer[m]So, you can ignore the extra device setting if you have it set as master.15:50
LcamI have set my PC soundcard as the Master15:50
LcamThe idea is that in the end I aggregate my inputs to Reaper (I have another interface). I know this is a bad idea but I should be able to work with for my application15:51
Eickmeyer[m]That's the problem. Your Scarlett is better suited to be master. PC soundcards are problematic as master.15:51
Eickmeyer[m]You can make your PC soundcard an "extra device". PC soundcards aren't meant for pro audio and get super high latency.15:52
LcamSo when I set the focusrite as usb master, it takes over as the Jack Master Device?15:57
LcamFound the answer to that. Seems like my PC soundcard was the culprit.. Set the scarlett as USB master and with a buffer size of 256 seems to be working properly!16:01
LcamThanks for all your help Eickmeyer!16:01
Lcamwould tweaking the JACK periods affect anything?16:01
Eickmeyer[m]Lcam: You're welcome!16:03
Eickmeyer[m]Probably not, but it would make JACK reset potentially.16:03
Eickmeyer[m]Experimenting and finding the best settings for your hardware takes time.16:04
LcamThat's all I wanted to hear I guess as I've been playing around with the setup for hours now.. loving the system so far though! 16:08
ninefix[m]Hi all, is "M-Audio Firewire Solo" supported by Ubuntu Studio 22.04? I'm trying to make it works...without success for now16:20
Eickmeyer[m]ninefix: As a general rule, if it works on a mac (due to standards compliance), then it should work with the Linux kernel, therefore work on Ubuntu.16:20
Eickmeyer[m]From experience, I can't say one way or the other because I've never tried it. YMMV16:22
ninefix[m]It's detected by the system...but I'm not ablo to make it works...nothing heard. I'll try to fiddle with options in Studio Controls 16:25
ninefix[m]thanks16:25
Eickmeyer[m]ninefix: Just remember, Studio Controls has to open after you connect your device, it can't live-populate.16:26
ninefix[m]ok16:27
Lcam@Eickmeyer, what I'm noticing is any device that is connected as an "extra device" is getting distorted. Only the Jack master is working as it should... is this normal?18:28
Eickmeyer[m]Lcam: Try increasing the buffer on those extra devices. If you haven't, add the ubuntu studio backports PPA and upgrade everything. There's a known bug with how the extra devices gets handled that was fixed in a later verision of Studio Controls.18:29
