[22:00] So I've installed the vitalium-lv2 package, and I can add a MIDI track in Ardour using it as the instrument, but Ardour doesn't allow me to open vitalium in the mix editor to change the synth. Any tips? [22:03] leonwinter1993: Do you mean the window for the plugin? [22:04] And moreover, what package is the vitalium-lv2 package in? How did you get it? [22:07] that package is part of KX studio plugin repo? [22:09] oerheks: Yeah that's where I got it from. Does it not transfer well? [22:10] !kxstudio [22:10] KXStudio is a software repository for Debian-based operating systems for audio production. It is not supported by Ubuntu or Ubuntu Studio, and using its repo is highly discouraged as it can overwrite system and user settings. Support in #kxstudio. See also https://askubuntu.com/a/1249739/952110 [22:10] I'd go with a 'no' here.. >_> [22:10] leonwinter1993: We simply can't support it here. [22:10] #kxstudio:libera.chat is where you need to go. [22:11] Additionally they have packages which overwrite our packages, so basically you no longer have a pure Ubuntu Studio system. [22:11] yes, even though it is hosted on launchpad too [22:13] leonwinter1993: https://kx.studio/Repositories:Plugins According to the Ask Ubuntu question linked above, you might be able to pull the package directly from the website (which I put a link to), and install it without adding the whole KXStudio repos. However, according to the same question, fully removing the repos in order to get your system back to normal will require a full reinstall. So I'd fully reinstall Ubuntu Studio and [22:13] then add the package that way and see if it works. [22:14] .. but then you lack updates [22:14] oerheks: True, but I don't think updates will be vital for an LV2 plugin instrument. [22:15] well, now he knows, and has a choice [22:15] i would n;t [22:17] One of my projects, which got put on the back burner, was to get every one of those plugins into the Ubuntu repos. A good chunk made it, but some haven't yet. [22:17] arraybolt3: I haven't added KXStudio's repos to my machine, I just installed the package directly from the website. That's how this issue started. Well, crud, then that won't work. [22:17] this is what I mean [22:18] Oh, that doesn't look right. [22:18] You need to add the plugin to the track. [22:18] the vitalium midi track was added, but there's not an option to open vitalium from it [22:18] In the mixer area, right click, lick New Plugin > Plugin Selector [22:18] s/lick/click [22:19] lol [22:19] shuddup krytarik [22:19] :x [22:19] hehehe [22:20] Once in the plugin selector, search for vitalium [22:21] maybe visable when you logout/login after install? [22:21] Eickmeyer: Just reinstalled the plugin (uninstalled for fear of problems), how to re-scan for plugins? [22:21] oerheks: Nah, shouldn't have to in ardour. [22:22] leonwinter1993: Edit > Preferences > Plugins > Scan for Plugins [22:22] * Eickmeyer[m] is actually basing this off of the downstream project, Harrison Mixbus, which only slightly differs [22:24] * leonwinter1993[m uploaded an image: (8KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/QPUdcXYjPlxvocsNbddpXDLo/error.png > [22:24] Yikes. That means it might be incompatible. [22:24] Incompatible with Ardour. [22:25] It shuoldn't be incompatible. I've had this work before when running Ardour in Garuda and Manjaro. [22:25] You could try loading it in Carla and see what happens. [22:25] Eickmeyer: You beat me to it, I was just about to say the same thing. [22:25] Check the log window and see what it says. [22:25] That's the blinking dot in the upper right-hand corner of Ardour. [22:25] Load it in Carla, then use JACK to connect it to Ardour. If you aren't able to get it to load in Ardour directly. [22:29] * leonwinter1993[m uploaded an image: (12KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/lxsBXMVYNXcFcSrSjOCmTZuY/carla_error.png > [22:29] this is from trying to load in Carla [22:30] Ok, that means it was built against an incorrect library. This is one of the problems with kxstudio is that it's built against an older version of Ubuntu and those libraries aren't necessarily guaranteed to work in newer Ubuntu. [22:31] Hmmm, hate to say it, but maybe it's worth switching to KX studio? [22:31] KXStudio isn't an operating system anymore. [22:31] go dammit [22:32] If you absolutely need that plugin, give me a couple weeks, and I might be able to get a build going, but you've got to give me time as I do this stuff in my spare time. [22:32] maybe there's another version of this package that's made to ubuntu studio? haven't found it, but maybe someone here knows it? [22:32] I'm the leader of Ubuntu Studio and the main packager. [22:33] Ohhh really? That's awesome! Pleasure to meet you dude :D [22:33] So, let me see if I can find the upstream source and at least get a preliminary package going. I assume you're on 22.04? [22:33] Indeed I am [22:34] Ok. I'll see what I can do. Are you here via a web browser instance of Element or did you get element desktop? [22:34] I really appreciate that dude. Vital synth and vitalium are corner stones for producing music for me, so that would be absolutely amazing! [22:34] This is the desktop version for me [22:35] Ok, perfect. Let me get you an invite to the developer chat so we don't clog the support chat up with what is really a development thing. [22:36] Sounds awesome dude! I'd be happy to do any testing of what you come up with too. Love to help out with this!
