derek-shnoshSo, any secret sauce to somewhat reliably getting plasma 5.25.x on Kubuntu 22.04?03:12
oerheksno, not on LTS. next Kinetic will have it03:13
arraybolt3derek-shnosh, Is there a particular feature from Plasma 5.25 you need on Kubuntu? Until it becomes an official part of Kubuntu, it's not supported.03:13
oerhekshttps://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plasma-desktop03:13
oerheksyou do not want to test https://launchpad.net/~kubuntu-ppa/+archive/ubuntu/staging-plasma?field.series_filter=jammy03:14
derek-shnoshInterested in a few features, floating panel is one.03:14
oerheksthen install kinetic beta03:14
oerheks22.1003:15
derek-shnoshI'll hold off for Kinetic release then.03:15
oerhekshttps://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/daily-live/current/03:15
derek-shnoshIt should be right around the corner.03:15
oerheks2 months03:15
derek-shnoshAh, right... kinetic drops ubuntu end of Oct, right? So K variant another month03:16
arraybolt3Should be sometime in October, I can look up the intended release date if you want.03:16
oerhekshelp testing is appreciated03:17

anarchist_tomatoBonjour. I am using Kubuntu 21.10 and I'm trying to update my repositories so I can upgrade to 22.04. However, apt simply isn't working anymore, with errors about release files, etc. Every guide that has steps to upgrade always relies on the usual "sudo apt upgrade" kind of steps, but I'm stuck because those functions are no longer working. Even06:16
anarchist_tomatothe guide in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EOLUpgrades doesn't work because of this stupid catch-22. What can I do? Is there a guide to manually changing the apt sources, maybe?06:16

arraybolt3anarchist_tomato, That link has instructions for changing to the old releases repo near the top.07:03
anarchist_tomatoare you talking about the Upgrading section with "Update sources.list"?07:05
anarchist_tomato(I should also state: I tried the manual upgrader tool but it doesn't find any new distros, just 21.10 to 21.10)07:06
arraybolt3Yeah, that's the spot.07:11
anarchist_tomatoI was about to say that that's the problem area, because it relies on a bunch of apt commands that don't work, which was my main problem in the first place. However, I just switched from local Australian servers to default American ones and I seem to have got a little further. I'll let you know if it works07:12
arraybolt3That section is just editing sources.list, no apt commands involved.07:13
arraybolt3Once those commands are run, apt should just work.07:13
arraybolt3Er, once that file's been edited.07:13
anarchist_tomatoi did have one attempt at that earlier, but I think more was involved than just replacing those several lines, and it needed to sink with something else. In the middle of the main download now though. 'Try the default servers instead of local ones' might be a good FAQ response to add I guess.07:23
tomreynanarchist_tomato: the steps, in a nutshell, are: (1) edit sources.list, only changing any domain names (*.)archive.ubuntu.com to old-releases.ubuntu.com, DO NOT change the release CODENAME. (2) optional: (3) optionally: check that Prompt=... is set correctly in /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades (3) sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade   (repeat and fix any further errors preventing the full-upgrade from happening as needed). (4)07:40
tomreynrun: sudo do-release-upgrade07:40
tomreynoops, copy and paste mistake, trying again: https://termbin.com/llok07:42
anarchist_tomatois that somewhere easily google-able?07:49
anarchist_tomatodammit, gotta go, ubuntu wants me to close firefox so it can install the snap instead. yippee beans, lol07:52
shonudowill this more-or-less automated upgrade from LTS to LTS (20.04 to 22.04.x) apply to kubuntu as well?09:08

shonudo^^ see the above09:08
arraybolt3Yes, Kubuntu should be able to upgrade the same way. Ubuntu and Kubuntu are the same OS under the hood.09:22
FravialisHi all. plasma-updater keeps showing me phantom "upgrades" of packages which simply aren't there. Is there any way I can clear its cache?09:42

FravialisHi all. plasma-discover wants to install these packages: libcgi-fast-perl libcgi-pm-perl libevent-pthreads-2.1-7 libfcgi-bin libfcgi-perl libfcgi0ldbl libhtml-template-perl  .. but apt autoremove wants to remove them. Excuse my French, but how the f... is this even possible? What database or logic is plasma-discover using??10:48
FravialisIt looks like it's using a packagekit library :/11:00
shonudoarraybolt3[m]: thanks for the response11:12

Guest23Hello, I want to upgrade from kubuntu 22.04 to 22.04.1. How can I archive that? My plasma always freezes unexpectedly. So I hope such an upgrade might fix something16:01
