Eickmeyer[m]Welcome, Ruth Cheesley (she/her) !18:36
RuthCheesleysheh👋18:37
Eickmeyer[m]So, to answer your questions from #ubuntu-studio-offtopic:matrix.org , right now the funds are just kindof sitting/doing nothing. They're not used. They're kindof a rainy-day fund for when/if one of us goes to a conference. Sadly, with COVID and restrictions, that hasn't been a thing for some time.18:38
Eickmeyer[m]The original intention was that it would be used to fund development costs/my wage as leader if it ever got enough monthly donations. It doesn't, so that doesn't happen.18:40
Eickmeyer[m]Then, if that ever doubled, it would fund more devs, and so on.18:40
Eickmeyer[m]Ruth Cheesley (she/her): Does that make sense?18:41
Eickmeyer[m]As for the website, you're more than welcome to make whatever suggestions/corrections you'd like, help with dead links, and whatever. Just let me know in here (or krytarik since he has access too.18:42
milkiiJust saw https://github.com/ElizabethHarmon/UbuntuProAudio18:42
Eickmeyer[m]We can't just give anyone access to the website until we know them well enough since we've had attacks and code hacks/embeds in the past from untrusted individuals. Make sense?18:43
RuthCheesleyshehYeah totally - I was just suggesting it might be good to say on the page what the funds are used for, because as someone looking to contribute that wasn't mentioned or clear from the page 🙂 18:43
Eickmeyer[m]RuthCheesleysheh: Understood, probably because at the time that wasn't clear either.18:44
RuthCheesleyshehMakes sense. Can I also help with the wiki? It's mega outdated. I was trying to find the high res logos of the new brand and the logos on there are ... well, very outdated it seems18:44
Eickmeyer[m]RuthCheesleysheh: Right, and the wiki is.. well, dying. 18:44
RuthCheesleyshehthe blog post about the new brand doesn't actually link to the brand resources, so, yeah18:45
RuthCheesleysheh(writing a post about switching from Kubuntu to Ubuntu Studio)18:45
Eickmeyer[m]Oh, ok. I can get you those resource.18:45
Eickmeyer[m]Ruth Cheesley (she/her): https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntustudio-art/ubuntustudio-artwork/+git/current-standard/tree/18:46
Eickmeyer[m]If you're familiar with git, you can just clone the git repo here: https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntustudio-art/ubuntustudio-artwork/+git/current-standard18:47
Eickmeyer[m]I'd love to see your post!18:47
RuthCheesleyshehAwesome, I can work with Git18:47
RuthCheesleyshehthanks!18:47
Eickmeyer[m]I'm also collecting stories as I'm very likely headed to Prague for Ubuntu Summit 2022 in November, so your story would be very helpful!18:48
RuthCheesleyshehAh nice, I am in Prague in September for DrupalCon18:48
Eickmeyer[m]Oh nice!18:48
Eickmeyer[m]Anyhow, we'd love suggestions for the website and we're always looking to add to the team in one way or another. I can get you wiki access if you'd like if you have a Launchpad account.18:50
RuthCheesleyshehI do indeed, username is rcheesley (had to retrieve it from the depths of lastpass!)18:50
RuthCheesleyshehI tried to make an edit but I don't think I can change the main landing page. Could edit the brand one though with the new resources18:51
RuthCheesleyshehDo you want the wiki to die off, or should it be still living?18:51
Eickmeyer[m]Well, it would be nice to get as much updated as possible in case they decide to transition it to a different wiki. Overall it's in horrible shape.18:52
Eickmeyer[m]You'll notice the sign-in process is just horrible.18:52
RuthCheesleyshehit looks a bit 1990's ish in general!18:52
RuthCheesleyshehIt is, I had to jump through loads of buttons and logins18:52
Eickmeyer[m]And the markdown is unlike anything you've ever used.18:52
RuthCheesleyshehand then go back to launchpad to update my email address18:53
Eickmeyer[m]Yeah, it's.... 🤮18:53
RuthCheesleyshehworse than RST? 🤣18:53
Eickmeyer[m]^ That.18:53
RuthCheesleyshehuh oh18:53
Eickmeyer[m]Let me guess... 504 timeout?18:54
RuthCheesleyshehUhh, yeah I had a few timeouts in the login process, and then it was going to some ridiculously long string and just crashed18:54
RuthCheesleyshehand then I reloaded the page I came from and I was logged in18:54
Eickmeyer[m]Yeah, that's about right.18:54
RuthCheesleysheh🤷18:54
Eickmeyer[m]Like I said...18:55
Eickmeyer[m]It's pretty much a pile.18:55
RuthCheesleyshehWell, I got there in the end!18:55
Eickmeyer[m]Perfect.18:55
RuthCheesleysheh<Eickmeyer[m]> "I'm also collecting stories as I..." <- https://www.ruthcheesley.co.uk/blog/geek-stuff/switching-from-kubuntu-to-ubuntu-studio pretty simple story so far, also wrote about switching to Pipewire after some problems with audio: https://www.ruthcheesley.co.uk/blog/geek-stuff/swapping-out-jack-for-pipewire-in-ubuntu-studio-22-0420:24
Eickmeyer[m]<RuthCheesleysheh> "https://www.ruthcheesley.co.uk/..." <- Excellent! That second one might be helpful because eventually we're going to have to go to Pipewire by default. Looks like we're going to miss it for 22.10 sadly as we had a lot more bugs to fix than we bargained for this time around, sadly.20:35
Eickmeyer[m]OvenWerks: ^20:36
OvenWerks:P20:36
RuthCheesleyshehYeah I had a few quirks but most of them were resolved by rebooting a few times20:36
Eickmeyer[m]Right. The bugs we had were caused in the switch before 22.04's release by the switch to Python 3.10. It made a lot of problems.20:37
RuthCheesleyshehSome folks in the community I was in who were helping me to troubleshoot are having some issues with Pipewire/bluetooth but it somehow #justworked for me20:37
arraybolt3[m]Ruth Cheesley (she/her): If you have experience with PipeWire, it would be awesome if you could figure out how to get a JACK-PipeWire bridge going for FFADO support. Me, OvenWerks, and Eickmeyer all bashed our brains up against that with no success and it's the one feature that was really a deal-breaker if it couldn't work.20:37
RuthCheesleysheh(safer to ask no questions, I figured!)20:37
RuthCheesleyshehoof, I am not able to help with that I think. I'm a pointy-clicky-gui user who can follow instructions at command line 😛 20:38
arraybolt3[m](One random guy got it to work on openSUSE, so somehow it should be doable.)20:38
arraybolt3[m]Ah, OK.20:38
RuthCheesleyshehthere's a bunch of great audio folks in the Ardour communities around the web though, maybe someone can help. I could ask in case anyone has experience20:39
Eickmeyer[m]Ruth's going to be here helping with documentation (wiki) and the website.20:39
arraybolt3[m]Eickmeyer: OK, sorry.20:39
OvenWerksI am sure PW will work for most people. Just the few of us that have nice FW devices. The alsa fw stack makes a fw device worse than USB. Not all of us can just switch.20:39
arraybolt3[m]Eickmeyer: (Also, quick progress report on distrho-ports - I have 5583 lines left in my progress file (I had over 6000 at one point), so things are coming along nicely with getting that done.)20:40
RuthCheesleyshehYeah, to be honest after many hours troubleshooting I kinda just tried to switch covering my eyes and hoping it wasn't worse than what I did have already20:40
Eickmeyer[m]arraybolt3[m]: YESSSSS. Fwiw, the upstream is excited.20:40
RuthCheesleyshehI was pleasantly surprised it worked as well as it did 20:40
RuthCheesleyshehI just checked the markdown on the wiki. I see what you mean 😵‍💫20:47
arraybolt3[m]They call it MoinMoin - I think they meant to type MoanMoan.20:51
RuthCheesleysheh🤣 it literally makes my eyes go 😵‍💫20:53
Eickmeyer[m]It's cringe in its highest form.21:10
RuthCheesleyshehBit too sleepy to work out how to upload images, but I've updated the latest release links, and made a new page for the brand refresh linked from the artwork page. Just dumped the links to the blog post and the git clone commands for the current resources and the whole lot including past resources21:14
Eickmeyer[m]Ruth Cheesley (she/her): That's awesome! Thanks for joining the team!21:34
