doog | Hi, I have just upgraded from 20.04 to 22.04 and have noticed that some of the window decorations are different depending on the app. For example, the top bar in thunar looks "normal", but when I open Edit → Preferences, that window has a top bar with more padding, a different font, and some slight transparency. After a bit of reading, I think this might be because of something called "Client Side Decoration" (CSD) that was introduced in Xfce 4.16? Is i | 13:47 |
doog | t possible to disable this? Or at least be able to adjust the font / transparency somewhere like I can in the Window Manager settings for my "normal" windows? | 13:47 |
doog | I'm using the Arc-Dark theme if that makes any difference | 13:47 |
xenoid | whats the best way to upgrade from xubuntu 20.04 lts to 22.04 lts through terminal? | 14:22 |
doog | I'm not sure if it's the *best* way, but I upgraded with: sudo do-release-upgrade | 14:23 |
xenoid | Checking for a new Ubuntu release Failed to connect to https://changelogs.ubuntu.com/meta-release-lts-development. Check your Internet connection or proxy settings | 14:31 |
xenoid | im getting this error right now in terminal | 14:31 |
xenoid | There is no development version of an LTS available | 14:31 |
xenoid | o upgrade to the latest non-LTS development release | 14:31 |
xenoid | set Prompt=normal in /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades. | 14:31 |
xenoid | my internet is working just fine | 14:31 |
xenoid | nm it worked changed https to http | 14:37 |
Ebonair | Hi all. I'm trying to switch from NVidia to the Nouveau display driver, but I'm getting: "pk-client-error-quark: The following packages have unmet dependencies: nvidia-dkms-515: Depends: dkms but it is not going to be installed (268)" | 16:49 |
Ebonair | But that error makes no sense to me - I've got nvidia-dkms-510 installed, not 515. | 16:50 |
Ebonair | And dkms is already the latest version, according to apt-get. | 16:50 |
Ebonair | Rebooting, installing 515, and then removing it seems to have done the trick. | 16:57 |

tomreyn | xenoid: the HTTPS location does exist and generally work, though. having to fall back to plain http can make the upgrade process a lot less secure. | 18:44 |
xenoid | it worked and i upgraded | 18:44 |
xenoid | 22.04.1 is buggy right now compared to 20.04.4 | 18:45 |
xenoid | for xubuntu | 18:45 |
xenoid | the notification area applet no longer works or appears in xubuntu panel | 18:46 |
xenoid | software center doesnt work either for me | 18:48 |
xenoid | missing icons | 18:49 |
xenoid | wow i Switched server on the software center and now they appear | 19:01 |
xenoid | @tomreyn i switched back to https in the config after the upgrade | 19:02 |
tomreyn | for apt sources it matters less. | 19:03 |
xenoid | @tomreyn I used to be able to hide these icons on the panel bar https://i.imgur.com/CElH9TE.png | 19:14 |
xenoid | I cant do that in 22.04 lts anymore | 19:14 |
xenoid | I dont have that arrow anymore | 19:14 |
tomreyn | xenoid: sorry, i'm too little into xubuntu to tell :-/ | 19:29 |
tomreyn | maybe someone else here can help. | 19:30 |
Unit193 | xenoid: Ctrl+Right click, it has options to hide applications. | 19:42 |
xenoid | tomreyn: thats my desktop right now https://i.imgur.com/wIHymCZ.png | 19:48 |
tomreyn | xenoid: i'm ok with that | 19:48 |
xenoid | Unit193: they dont work those options | 19:48 |
xenoid | Unit193: https://imgur.com/b6buBSo.png | 19:49 |
arraybolt3 | Hide indicators by default? | 19:49 |
Unit193 | That does not look like the status tray icon, do you have xfce4-statusnotifier-plugin installed? | 19:50 |
Unit193 | You'll want statustray. | 19:50 |
xenoid | statustray?> | 19:51 |
Unit193 | Part of xfce4-panel, yeah. | 19:51 |
xenoid | https://imgur.com/licKPqH.png | 19:51 |
xenoid | i have indicator plugin installed right now | 19:51 |
xenoid | Unit193: i tried that it hides the icons but lets say I want to open the app through the tray I can it doesnt display | 19:53 |
xenoid | I dont have that arrow like I had in xubuntu 20.04 and 18.04 where i can pull up the tray icons | 19:54 |
xenoid | Unit193: https://imgur.com/drvMYOc.png see what I mean? | 19:54 |
xenoid | https://imgur.com/p3cR2TB.png | 19:56 |
Unit193 | xenoid: Replace 'Indicator plugin' with 'Status Tray plugin' | 19:56 |
Unit193 | I don't know for sure you'll be able to, but I just attempted to hide an item and saw the arrorw you speak of. | 19:57 |
Unit193 | Using xfce4-panel 4.16.4 | 19:57 |
xenoid | so status tray plugin? | 20:01 |
xenoid | Unit193: https://imgur.com/EkggK9L.png see i removed the indicator plugin and used the status tray plugin | 20:03 |
xenoid | and hid the apps and i get no arrow | 20:03 |
Unit193 | !info xfce4-panel | 20:04 |
ubottu | xfce4-panel (4.16.3-1, jammy): panel for Xfce4 desktop environment. In component universe, is optional. Built by xfce4-panel. Size 735 kB / 3,759 kB | 20:04 |
Unit193 | Hmm. | 20:05 |
xenoid | not only that I open programs like clementine and it doesnt even appear in the icon tray | 20:05 |
xenoid | however when I use plugin inidicator it appears but I cant minimize the tray or hide the icons | 20:05 |
Unit193 | I seem to have what you're describing, though I do have one version up from you as well... | 20:07 |
Unit193 | https://sources.debian.org/src/xfce4-panel/4.16.4-1/NEWS/ I don't see anything in .4 that should fix it, unless I missed it. | 20:07 |
xenoid | no i have the same version as you | 20:07 |
xenoid | 22.04 lts | 20:07 |
xenoid | https://imgur.com/kA23W1V.png | 20:07 |
xenoid | see I wanna Minimize clutter but if I have to use it like this for now I will | 20:08 |
Unit193 | ...What is that screenshot supposed to prove? :) | 20:08 |
xenoid | im not sure if any xubuntu admins answer in this chan | 20:08 |
Unit193 | I'm an Xubuntu dev, I do a lot of the packaging. But like I said, I have xfce4-panel 4.16.4-1, whereas jammy has only 4.16.3-1. | 20:10 |
Unit193 | I'll downgrade and see if it's the same. | 20:10 |
xenoid | oh I see | 20:10 |
xenoid | also the weather app no longer displays the temperature | 20:11 |
xenoid | well the numeric digits it used to display beside the sun icon etc.. | 20:13 |
Unit193 | OK, so yeah I'm confused. I seem to have it working on xfce4-panel 4.16.3 too... I've seen a bug report where xfce4-weather-plugin forgets settings, yeah. | 20:13 |
Unit193 | I just saw a commit or a dev release that should fix that issue though. | 20:14 |
Unit193 | Just to be clear: In that list of applications, you want an option to click that hides certain icons (say keepassxc) and tucks them under an arrow you can use to expand to access such icons as one normally would? | 20:15 |
xenoid | yes Unit193 | 20:16 |
xenoid | kind of like in windows when you can hide apps in the tray | 20:16 |
Unit193 | Yeah, OK. That's exactly what I'm seeing. :/ | 20:16 |
Unit193 | All I did was go in the status tray preferences and check 'hide' next to keepassxc. :/ | 20:17 |
Unit193 | It's not that I don't believe you, it's that I can't really tell you what to do because that works for me. I have an old system that's been upgraded over the years, so some config may be leftover. I had hoped changing from the unmaintained indicator plugin to the status tray would help, but it seems that it did not. | 20:19 |
xenoid | Unit193: I got it to work with the other status tray however when I open new apps like steam they dont go to the tray and I get the arrow now but I removed it altogther | 22:12 |
xenoid | Unit193: it seems way too buggy this release 22.04 lts | 22:12 |
xenoid | Unit193: I found a temporary solution and created a 3rd horizontal panel and that auto hides for now | 22:12 |
xenoid | Unit193: https://i.imgur.com/6yDzByD.png | 22:12 |
Unit193 | Ouch...well I guess if that works.. | 22:13 |
xenoid | Unit193: between upgrading and trying to fix something so minor like this today took me all day Ill leave it as it is now | 22:13 |
xenoid | Unit193: maybe in future updates they fix it | 22:13 |
Unit193 | - systray: Help to keep status notifiers from vanishing (xfce4-panel #102, #243, #599) | 22:14 |
xenoid | is that a current bug thats reported | 22:15 |
Unit193 | I'm not sure if that's your fix, doesn't quite sound like it. That's in the NEWS of xfce4-panel 4.16.5 | 22:15 |
xenoid | it is my fix | 22:15 |
xenoid | the icons do vanish | 22:16 |
xenoid | if I enable and hide them | 22:16 |
Unit193 | Urgh, well I doubt it, but if you're the type that will add a PPA, I can upload the new version of xfce4-panel to the backports PPA (https://launchpad.net/~xubuntu-dev/+archive/ubuntu/staging/+packages) | 22:18 |
Unit193 | I'll be uploading xfce4-panel 4.17.3 to the development shortly, but that's a dev release so I wouldn't recommend it in an LTS. | 22:19 |
xenoid | Unit193: https://imgur.com/xzTEL8K.png | 23:11 |
xenoid | I enabled status tray | 23:11 |
xenoid | Unit193: https://imgur.com/z8M5j6u.png I closed clementine and reopened up it doesnt appear in my sys tray | 23:14 |
xenoid | Unit193: however it appears in my indicator plugin | 23:15 |
xenoid | if I remove the status tray and readd it than I will see clemtine again | 23:15 |
xenoid | but if i decide to exit clementine and reopen it never appears again in the status tray | 23:16 |
xenoid | atleast I have the arrow back | 23:16 |
xenoid | but vanishing apps in the tray | 23:16 |
=== keypushe- is now known as keypusher | ||
Unit193 | So it's possible that's been solved, perhaps. | 23:32 |
xenoid | half of it is solved | 23:33 |
Unit193 | That is, in 4.16.5. | 23:34 |
xenoid | https://imgur.com/UVFMEFQ.png | 23:49 |
xenoid | look i just rebooted my system | 23:49 |
xenoid | and the icons in the tray are gone | 23:49 |
xenoid | only 2 of them are left | 23:49 |
xenoid | my steam isnt there | 23:49 |
xenoid | etc.. | 23:49 |
xenoid | they just vanished after a reboot | 23:49 |
xenoid | and if I open a program it never goes in the trya | 23:50 |
xenoid | *tray | 23:50 |
xenoid | however the program will go in the plugin indicator which is where I created a 3rd panel for now | 23:50 |
xenoid | https://imgur.com/1FXSTHN.png | 23:53 |
