BluesKajHi all12:11
Eickmeyer[m]Hey! Does anybody want to get the buzz out about this little powerhouse? https://kfocus.org/spec/spec-nx.html16:51
arraybolt3[m]Eickmeyer: OK I'll take one. (ok that's a joke, I can't afford that right now, but WOW that looks cool.)19:45
Eickmeyer[m]arraybolt3: All we need is the word spread.19:46
arraybolt3[m]Eickmeyer[m]: Sounds good, will do!19:47
Eickmeyer[m]It's tiny, but packs a punch!19:47
arraybolt3[m](They're cheaper than I expected! Still outside of my price range but WOW those are cool.)19:48
arraybolt3[m]Out of curiosity, why does KFocus keep going with 11th Gen Intel? 12th Gen is supposedly WAY more powerful - a 12th gen i5 beats an 11th gen i7 IIUC.19:48
mmikowskiarraybolt3[m]: The 11th generation support is more mature. We do have 12th-gen with  the M2, but the 12-gen NUCs are just hitting the market now.20:12
arraybolt3[m]Ah, good point.20:12
mmikowskiIt takes weeks to sort through BIOS, modules, and hardware configs.  Trust me, it's a full-time job!20:13
arraybolt3[m]Yeah but it looks like you're making awesome computers. Keep it up!20:14
mmikowski... for many people :) For example, in the NX, there is a critical BIOS update that has to be accomplished for everything to work right. Also, it was prone to audio popping due to an Intel audio auto-sleep. Those are just two examples of fixes we put into place based on extensive usage tests. 20:15
mmikowskiThanks arraybolt3[m]!20:15
arraybolt3[m]Wow. That sounds like a pain.20:15
arraybolt3[m]Funny that you actually care to fix things like that though - my dad's HP Envy has some of the worst audio pop you've ever heard, like as if HP just... didn't care to ever fix it. Or maybe this one unit was particularly bad.20:16
arraybolt3[m]I really need an upgraded system at some point, so I'll be keeping an eye on this stuff.20:16
mmikowskiWe return a lot of testing now upstream for Kubuntu and others.  However, not everyone has time to sort through it and implement fixes like we do. In the case of the audio popping, I can probably tell you how to fix it :)20:17
arraybolt3[m]LOL well the HP Envy is running Won20:17
arraybolt3[m]Windows 10... D-:20:17
arraybolt3[m]I don't use it, so I'm fine with it, my dad can figure it out. :P20:18
mmikowskiAh, well then you're out of luck. But if it's Linux, there's a kernel module setting that solves it.20:18
arraybolt3[m]Nice. If he switches to Linux I'll see if I can do it.20:19
mmikowskiInterestingly, we don't set that for laptop models in the hardware-config subsystem - it isn't needed. But for the NX and generic desktops, we found it would occur, and the tiny power savings there really don't matter. So that's now the default on all generic hardware too.20:20
