=== BrianG61UK_ is now known as BrianG61UK [02:14] I’m trying to put lubuntu on my old MacBook hdd [02:14] It got stuck on the newest distro so I’m trying 21.04 [02:14] I know if that works I probably can update it myself [02:17] It’s stuck creating the initramfs [03:04] jbwncster, Lubuntu 21.04 is EOL & thus unsupported here, only 20.04 LTS & 22.04 LTS are supported (currently) [03:05] jbwncster, https://lubuntu.me/hirsute-eol/ [03:05] I was going to use it to do the initial install and then update it manually with the terminal [03:06] But it didn’t work either [03:07] 21.04 release-upgraded to 21.10, but that's not available either as it's EOL too [03:18] jbwncster: i see guiverc got to you. but yes 21.04 is dead as well. So is 21.10. Lubuntu 20.04 LTS is the only version still supported other than Lbuntu 22.04 [03:18] so if Lubuntu 22.04 is not able to work on your system then you need to use 20.04 [03:18] I wasn’t even at that part [03:18] I was trying to install it on an external hdd [03:19] It wasn’t even in a machine [03:21] 'it got stuck' tells us nothing, so I can't comment on descriptions like that on your comment ~an hour ago... [03:22] It was stuck creating initramfs [03:23] You said that with 21.04; we don't support that release. [03:24] On all the releases [03:24] you tried 22.04 as well? You also waited because initramfs can take a long time to create if you're using an external hard drive? [03:24] (USB drives are slow as sin, compared to direct on-board SATA or NVMe) [03:25] teward: I waited 10 minutes [03:26] If I had a cd burner I’d be able to install it with the drive inside [03:26] The old MacBook doesn’t allow booting from usb [03:26] 10 minutes isn't that long (some slow devices can take a looong time), but I'd have switched to a text terminal & explored system logs (journalctl, dmesg etc... for clues) as I'd expect (hope?) to see evidence if it was looping (and not just super-slow)... [03:27] Yeah [03:27] Maybe I’ll try again and leave it overnight [03:37] jbwncster, just fyi.. but I'd have tried a xubuntu/kubuntu or other flavor Ubuntu 22.04 instead of 21.10/21.04 (or EOL release).. the initramfs steps are the same for each Ubuntu system (inc. Lubuntu), but other flavors use `ubiquity` installer which can make a difference for some 'strangish' hardware (each installer has its strengths & weaknesses). I'd expect it to end the same, but if didn't I'd then make that the flavor (lubuntu) you [03:37] want... you can use #ubuntu which has more eyes & thus may get reponses (people who use old macbooks with external drives maybe) === BrianG61UK_ is now known as BrianG61UK
