[18:42] bdmurray: sil2100 quick question of the contents of the Ubuntu Budgie 20.04.5 iso .... in the .list file I see lots of kernel 5.13 .deb files. Is this expected given that 5.15 is the default kernel now? It appears that installing proprietary WiFi drivers fails silently, meaning that an installed system with a Broadcom Wi-Fi card has no Wi-Fi after installation, despire the fact that Wi-Fi was working in the live environment. [19:30] Specific steps to reproduce: [19:31] 1: Boot Ubuntu 20.04.5. 2: Launch Ubiquity. 3: When you get to the screen where you are allowed to select whether you want to install proprietary drivers or not, check the box, then go to the next screen. 3: When the screen advances, go back to the last screen. 4: Connect to Wi-Fi (which will be available now). 5: Check the box to install updates, and leave the proprietary drivers box checked. 6: Finish installation. [19:31] If you do this on a system with a Broadcom Wi-Fi chip, the installed system will have no Wi-Fi connectivity when complete. [19:33] (Also, I checked the sha256sum of the ISO, and I have experienced this same problem occur on both Ubuntu Desktop and Ubuntu Studio 20.04.5.) [19:35] Oh, also, I clicked "Try Ubuntu" and then launched Ubiquity in that. [19:45] OK, I just noticed something interesting. If I *don't* go back to the screen where I can check the "Download updates" box after getting WiFi running, but instead just proceed with the installation without installing updates, then my Wi-Fi works. [19:47] And there aren't any updates to be installed, so I guess this is a UI problem with Ubiquity somehow? [19:58] enr0n: sorted, cheers [20:38] vorlon: thanks! [20:46] reminder: do I need an FFe to just fix a bug in a package? No feature changes, but a bugfix from upstream in a python file? [20:46] (not a python lib) [20:46] it's been a while since i did a bug fix during freeze that wasn't me sponsoring for the Security team heh [20:49] teward: no [20:50] vorlon: ack, that's what i thought but didn't want to step on toes :) [20:51] *goes to make more coffee now that the power isn't flickering* [20:53] -queuebot:#ubuntu-release- Unapproved: torbrowser-launcher (jammy-proposed/universe) [0.3.3-6ubuntu1 => 0.3.3-6ubuntu1.22.04.1] (no packageset) [21:00] vorlon: ^^ that's an SRU, the bug is the same as the bug referenced in the Kinetic upload to fix the same bug (not shown here because it was just Accepted) [21:00] no rush but that's why i was asking :) [21:00] thank you for the info confirm again :0 [21:01] +1 [21:02] luis220413 unnecessary +1 is unnecessary and just noise, remember that 'random noise' is not smiled upon [21:04] Sorry. I wanted to say that I just checked the differences and they were OK. It is always good to have someone else's look over your changes. [21:07] luis220413: i'm a seasoned dev, and since you are not on the SRU team, your +1 is noise.
