arraybolt3[m]Fallen: I'm thinking that, for designing how we want the documentation to work on Discourse, perhaps we should set up a test instance of Discourse where we can just fiddle with things until we're happy?04:05
arraybolt3[m]Oh yikes, nevermind. I just looked up the install procedure and... wow.04:08
arraybolt3[m]Also, another thing that just came to my attention is that, our Wiki is not the only one that is outdated. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CommunityHelpWiki has a link to the Kubuntu Wiki, which is at https://userbase.kde.org/Kubuntu, which appears to still be designed for Kubuntu 16.10 (?!).04:19
arraybolt3[m]We may also want to redefine what the Wiki is for. I see that we have things like how to set up thin clients in the existing Wiki, data which is somewhat specialized, incredibly outdated, and probably close to useless now. I'm thinking maybe we should adopt a method of maintenance similar to the Linux Kernel developers - if you want it, add it. If you add it, maintain it. If it's not properly maintained or is deemed04:24
arraybolt3[m]useless, we'll delete it.04:24
arraybolt3[m]And maybe also, if it's too specialized, maybe we don't want it? I dunno, that part seems iffy to me.04:24
arraybolt3[m]These are all just thoughts I'm having looking at stuff related to the wiki, if these ideas are just plain bad, it won't hurt me one bit for us to just throw them out.04:32
Fallenarraybolt3: The instance we get will be at a link that isn't published, so we can fiddle with it until we are happy, then either move the URL or link it in places.06:06
FallenWikis feel like they are always outdated, in a way ;-) Regardless what happens with the wiki, we do need to define what kind of content we favor to give a sense of purpose, and to make sure neither discourse nor the wiki become a dumping ground for everything. We can't stop it completely, likely.06:12
FallenI like the thought of potentially deleting/archiving content if there is no maintainer to keep it, maybe paired with a notification to the page editors, a grace period, and a deletion. Could even be automated. That does open a can of worms though, what about pages that link to that page, etc.06:12
lotuspsychjegood morning to all09:16
FallenGood morning as well :) Here is what I am up to today:10:28
Fallen* From yesterday, pick up the patch pilot program10:28
Fallen* Afternoon full of meetings, Ubuntu Shop and our events will platform, as well as chatting with Simon from Xubuntu10:28
Fallen* Looking for some alpha testers, people who enjoy learning and development - let me know if you are interested or know someone!10:28
Fallen* Stretch goal: Video about strategic plans, I've put together a strategy I wanted to tell the world about.10:28
Fallen(hope that formats better :)10:30
lotuspsychjehey there Fallen & PaulW2U 10:32
FallenKinda wish we had an IRC room with all (and only) the ubuntu members.11:35
FallenI might have to wait for Matrix to make that enforceable/manageable11:36
lotuspsychjethink its a thin red line between ubuntu members and dedicated volunteers contributing too Fallen 12:34
FallenAbsolutely, always worth using multiple channels to reach out to dedicated folks!12:35
lotuspsychjehence why i was thinking it would be a good idea to announce this irc channel for a revamp12:38
lotuspsychjenever know with other users would be interested12:38
lotuspsychje*wich12:38
arraybolt3[m]Fallen: Why not make a Libera.Chat room with an ACL for people's IRC nicks to join, then they can use /invite to get their Matrix clients to plug in? That's what I do with the private channel #lubuntu-members.16:45
FallenAutomating the acl might be more complicated? Maybe it would work using an ubuntu member cloak, but then eg people who prefer the Canonical cloak couldn't join.16:57
arraybolt3[m]We17:00
arraybolt3[m]Fallen: Hmm, and the Lubuntu Members team is tiny enough that we just have a manual ACL. I didn't think about that.17:00
arraybolt3[m]We'd end up having to clean it up if people lose membership, too.17:00
arraybolt3[m](Just noticed that there's also documentation on the Discourse site in areas other than the Documentation section, so let's not forget to move those as we work. Also, looking at Diataxis, now I get why we want to continue working on Discourse rather than scrapping and recreating it.)17:22
arraybolt3[m]Fallen: Is there any way for me to be granted the necessary privileges to start shaping up things on Discourse itself? If we're going to use the documentation section, I think someone should probably clean out the misguided support requests, and I'd be happy to help do that (moving/deleting/updating stuff as needed to get closer to our intended goal). If this is too early for me to be thinking about that, no problem.17:23
arraybolt3[m](Nevermind on now deleted thing, I think I'm trying to go waaaaay too fast getting progress made.)17:27
FallenHeh I know how it feels, I wish I could just get started. Pour that energy into the proposal so we are on the same page with everyone. Daniele from the docs team made some good points on scope and aligning with their efforts that I want to get in there, I'll add some comments when I've actually spoken to him.17:32
FallenAt a minimum, I think we should be clear on most of phase 1. We should know what the scope is (e.g. start with only community governance and how to contribute docs, leave out technical documentation), map out what the contribution opportunities are so people can take part independently without asking for each step. Sticking that on a page should be simple if we've already documented our thoughts, and then things can move along.17:33
FallenComms and making it easier to find initial tasks can go in parallel with more engaged folks already moving.17:33
arraybolt3[m]👍️17:33
Fallenyoungbin: did you and ilvipero chat about UbuCon Asia funding? I would have suggested https://forms.canonical.com/cda/ to get things rolling20:38

youngbin_<Fallen> "youngbin: did you and ilvipero..." <- I emailed ilvipero few days ago for sponsorship. 22:34
youngbin_I actually asked for something sounds quite difficult or unreasonable on the mail... He might be thinking how he should answer.22:48
