cojmeliegrigore[anyway i have read before about the option you mentioned and tried it. no positive result 00:02
arraybolt3[m]cojmeliegrigore: Hmm. Can you open a terminal and run "lsblk | nc termbin.com 9999" and send the link from that? (This will show me what drives are recognized by your system, but note that it may also reveal what Snaps you have installed, so if you don't want that, run "lsblk" all by itself, paste the output into a text file, redact any personal info, then send the output from that here, preferably using http://bpa.st as a00:09

cojmeliegrigore[i have no privacy issues 00:10

cojmeliegrigore[arraybolt3:there u go 00:15
cojmeliegrigore[i don't think the SSD is present, but in Info Center -> PCI it appears like this 00:17
arraybolt3[m]Weird. Is it visible in Windows?00:17
cojmeliegrigore[01:00.0 Non-Volatile memory controller: Sandisk Corp WD Black 2018/SN750 / PC SN720 NVMe SSD (prog-if 02 [NVM Express])... (full message at https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/libera.chat/174d562104ae92ca49f5c0a56bbf3f339bc6a05d)00:18
cojmeliegrigore[arraybolt3[m]: this leads to another weird situation 00:18
cojmeliegrigore[I tried reinstalling windows after I read on many sites that linus distros have an knows issue with SSD cards, but surprize i didn'd succed. The setup installer returned an info that i dont have drivers / firmware for some hardware (it didn't specified which) and afterwards the installer halted and rebooted the system.   00:22
arraybolt3[m]cojmeliegrigore: That sounds like RST is still enabled somehow.00:22
arraybolt3[m]cojmeliegrigore: You might ask about this in #ubuntu, there's lots more people there who might know the answer to the problem.00:23
Eickmeyer[m]#ubuntu:libera.chat specifically00:23
cojmeliegrigore[what does RST stands for ?00:23
arraybolt3[m]Intel Rapid Storage Technology.00:23
arraybolt3[m](Otherwise known as "oh great now I can't install Ubuntu :(")00:23
Eickmeyer[m]RST will mess you up every time.00:24
cojmeliegrigore[i understand00:24
arraybolt3[m]It's one of the very few hardware settings that can act as a total blocker if you can't turn it off. If that happens, you're banished to the world of alternate storage devices (which sounds like where you're at right now).00:24
arraybolt3[m]Even Windows can be thrown for a loop by it if you don't do things just right.00:25
arraybolt3[m](You might be able to buy an external USB NVMe adapter. Not sure how much that will mess up your speeds, but it would be something if you're entirely unable to turn off RST or something is keeping the SSD from working.)00:26
Eickmeyer[m]I've had gigantic amounts of success with those. ^00:27
cojmeliegrigore[yes I have already thought about purchasing an external USB adapter. 00:27
cojmeliegrigore[afterall the speeds are not so important if I can't use the drive 00:27
cojmeliegrigore[but i hope i will find a solution to fix it 00:28
cojmeliegrigore[i'll keep searching. but i have to thank you for your time and implication 00:29
arraybolt3[m]Glad to help, sorry the answer was less than awesome.00:30
cojmeliegrigore[no worries. the answer was more than enough regarding the context00:31

wonko[m]Is RST the new name for the soft raid nonsense?09:02
tomreynnot really new. and intel only.09:46
cojmeliegrigore[Hy people! Is there anybody willing to help out a poor man with a hardware/software problem ?12:30
tomreyncojmeliegrigore[: hi there, you're welcome to just ask your question, so anyone who can answer it can try to.13:04
tomreyncojmeliegrigore[: note that there is also #ubuntu if you have questions about things which are not directly related to the ubuntustudio audio software and its graphical desktop13:05
cojmeliegrigore[Hytomreyn . Thanks for implication. have installed ubuntu and totally removed windows and my SSD card PC SN720 NVMe 512 GB is not available anymore. I mention that it wasn't available in the installation proces either. I have am Lenovo all in one 520-27ICB system. I have read and tried several actions for repairing the issue but none worked.13:12
cojmeliegrigore[my situation it is regarding the fact that the os no longer recognozes SSD card 13:14
cojmeliegrigore[i trued multiple 'solutions' i read about over internet and forums 13:14
cojmeliegrigore[i think it is more than a month since i am struggling with this issue 13:15
tomreyncojmeliegrigore[: i understand that you're saying you physically removed the NVME, and now Ubuntu (or Ubuntu Studio) no longer detects ths NVME. this seems like the expected result of removing the hardware. am i misunderstanding something?16:00
cojmeliegrigore[ no sorry. perhaps i have explained in a wrong way. i havent removed anything physically. The system i have is a lenovo all in one 520-27ICB that came with windows 10 installed. so one day i have decided to quit using windows and installed Ubuntu. so i have completely removed windows. and that was the last time used the SSD drive. the SSD was not recongnized neither in Ubuntu setup nor later after the installation completed. 16:11
cojmeliegrigore[Afterwards I have tried several linux distros 16:12
Eickmeyer[m]cojmeliegrigore: No, what tomreyn was saying was that you might get better help in the #ubuntu:libera.chat channel, which supports Ubuntu Studio as well.16:13
cojmeliegrigore[Neither one of them 'saw' rthe SSD 16:13
tomreyni see. but you were able to install ubuntustudio on another disk, so you have it running there now?16:14
cojmeliegrigore[thanks for the advice Eickmeyer . I already submitted a question in the Ubuntu libera chat16:14
Eickmeyer[m]Ok, then please don't cross post.16:14
Eickmeyer[m]That goes against the IRC guidelines, which apply here as well.16:15
cojmeliegrigore[got it 16:15
cojmeliegrigore[appologies 16:15
tomreyni haven't seen the other post in #ubuntu16:15
tomreynmaybe post it there again, if it's been a long time ago16:15
cojmeliegrigore[tomreyn: yes. the system comes with a SSD drive of 512 GB and a HDD drive of 1 TB. so i was able to install the os on the regular hard drivwe16:16
tomreynshall we move over to #ubuntu:libera.chat then?16:17
Eickmeyer[m]Yeah, I don't see it at all.16:17
cojmeliegrigore[sure 16:17
Eickmeyer[m]Might be best, this isn't an Ubuntu Studio-speicific issue, but a general troubleshooting issue and others might have more ideas.16:18
cojmeliegrigore[appreciate your insight Eickmeyer 16:18
Eickmeyer[m]np16:18
